Any you guys watching it? On the history chanel. just watched the first episode on demand it's purdy guud

Yep, I like it.... interesting to see where they take it.

It's kinda funny in that the producers have done a good job of characterizing Ragnar as a combination YOUNG bully, punk and somewhat of a sociopath. You never know what he'll do next, but he;s always scheming. In other words, kind of like a 1%er or a sneering bully I can remember from high school. He has slight inclinations towards his family, but his wife is pretty much on the same page. In tonight's episode, they decide to both go to England and leave their kids in the hands of their English slave. Not yer real responsible parenting.

Ms. Bay Arean won't watch it, after the first episode and walks through the room ranting about dirtbags, scumbags, and assholes.

I mean, I study history a lot and I have always wondered about the actual raiders themselves. They were NOT soldiers because they lacked discipline and military order but they were effective just because they were wild and badass. Sound familiar? The Spanish conquistadors were also private citizens, NOT soldiers though people often make the mistake of equating them as such.

All and all, pretty entertaining. I have to say, since they are pairing it with their Bible show, it's much better and more compact than the latter.

...since they are pairing it with their Bible show...

Since you mention it, I've got a hypothesis. These shows premiered at mostly the same time.

My guess is that they came up with the "Bible" show first. Then they were sitting around, and realised, "Oh shit! That 'Eldritch' guy on BARF isn't going to watch this show! Fuck! Quick, come up with something he WILL watch!"

Hence, the Viking show.

I'm pretty sure Vikings is full speed ahead on the 'importing Christianity in to the viking world' theme. Thus, the tie in with their Bible series is clear...

Watching both the Bible and Vikings. The Bible is skipping stuff but it is good. My ancestors were Vikings, I am Scandinavian, crazy and mean. :teeth

I felt sorry for the monks. Who kills unarmed men? Sad. Reminds me of the book Byzantium though. Same story, raiders kidnap a monk as a slave and he brings Christianity to the people :teeth

Loved the part where the wife took on the two creeps and kicked butt! :party She needs to do it to the brother too, the jerk.

I always think its funny when Scandihoovians start tootin' their horns about being Vikings (not you Brown, just from past general blather I've heard). Because its usually tempered with images of their atrocities so the ethnic pride bit only can go so far before attention is turned upon the braggart. Oh, you mean yer proud that your ignorant stinking ancestors terrorized most of Europe and struck down unarmed people just for the hell of it? Just the good part? About being brave-n-stuff? Rilly??? Once again, the show does a good job of not idealizing the hellions....

The show is just ok. The inconsistencies with the languages is really lame. Apparently Vikings had Colgate and crest too, because no matter how dirty the get on the outside, everyone has nice pearly whites.
