CHP Officer Runs to Safety Moments Before Vehicle Collides with CHP Motorcycle
At approximately 7:42 a.m. this morning, a Solano Area CHP motor officer had a close call while conducting speed enforcement on eastbound I-80, west of Leisure Town Road.
For reasons still under investigation, the driver of a Hyundai Ioniq 5 drove onto the right shoulder and collided with the parked CHP motorcycle patrol vehicle. Moments before the collision, our officer saw the vehicle approaching and ran to safety onto the dirt shoulder, narrowly avoiding being struck.
The driver of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 was also uninjured. The cause of the collision remains under investigation. At this time, DUI does not appear to be a factor in this collision.

Glad the Motor Officer skipped aside.

The most charitable thing I can say is maybe low sun was involved because the wrecked car has the sun visor down on the driver's side. Otherwise, good on the Leo for situational awareness and fast reflexes. I don't think I'd have the discipline to follow the safety protocols to survive as a CHP moto officer.

You can't park there M8!
