bikeless again
I recently started adding weights to my normal workout and find that my hands can get pretty red and raw at times (probably because I'm a desk jockey during the day). It's not as bad with free weights (and probably because I'm not working with heavy weights yet), but some excercises on the machines just seem to aggravate my hands more then others.

Any recommendations on reasonably priced gloves or if I should just be a man and grin and bear it :cry?

thx!

just go to your nearest sports store and pick up the cheapest pair you can find. use those for a while and then you'll be more aware of what features you really want (more padding, type of strap, etc...)

i have pretty old gloves that i still use that i originally bought for $7 on sale. they still work great.

your hands will toughen up, but if you need your hands then of course get some gloves. The lifting pairs are very nice for a little well needed wrist support cause the pain is not cool

They are not over priced much really, I have seen lots of garden gloves in the gym that you can pick up for 10$ or you can probbaly pick up a decent pair for 25 at a sports store

Don't be a pussy. Your hands will adapt and jacking off will still feel the same. Don't freak out.

the business hand shakes that are a little rough and tough, are generally people you can trust more.

If you have bicycle riding gloves, those will work until you can get a pair of real lifting gloves - and yes, you can get a decent pair for under $30.

Watch your posture, hold in your stomach and don't forget to breathe.

Happy Lifting!!

Well, it depends on whether you want to wear gloves all the time... If you do go the glove route your hands will not toughen up and be able to handle lifting without them.

Plus I have yet to find a set of gloves that don't destroy in a matter of weeks.

Your hands will be red and raw for the next couple weeks until your hands develop calluses.

And Jbone is right - I tend to be more at ease when I shake a rough hand. Hell, most of my girlfriends like my rough hands... :teeth

I got some at Big5 for $4.99

They are on sale right now at Big 5. I was looking for bicyle gloves and saw the add yesterday. I wondered if I could just get a pair of weight lifting gloves instead of biking gloves? The price is right!
