Well I lane shared for the first time today

Oh boy...hangin' off and now with the lane-raping. Next thread topics: "Abrupt stopping", "Clutchless shifting", "Using cheap oil". Unless you tattoo "LIVE TO RIDE" onto your ass and are chased by six cops as you're doing a 12 o'clock highchair in a beanie and your birthday suit I'm forbidding you to post anymore of your little moto "adventures". :twofinger

shoulda got a ninja 250... :teeth

(they're really narrow) :party

(so the assraping is gentler) :sex

It doesn't feel right to me, feels like cheating. They made these laws back in the day to try and keep air cooled bikes moving, which I do not have an issue with. I just sit in traffic with everyone else...during my 6 minute commute. :twofinger

With some timely lane sharing you might cut that commute to 4 minutes!:twofinger

It's a real safety issue. Much better to be between cars or in front of stopped cars when another driver in another car behind you all is talking
on their phone, putting on makeup or shaving, reading a book, etc...and
ass packs some other cager. Biker back there would be dead.
It's a real safety issue. Filter to the front. Make sure there are no
red light runners before you enter the intersection.:ride

nancy boys call it lane sharing. Real men call it cage ass raping.

And when your son goes back to school from summer vacation, "What did you do for summer vacation Johnny?" "Ass raped people in cages with my dad!"

It's times like these that acting tough doesn't pay off. :laughing

nancy boys year tennies, real men year flip flops.

Yhat yere you trying to say?

Ant, fwiw, aside being a big middle finger to complacency in general, consider lane splitting as safety precaution . The main concern is getting hit from behind.
There will be moments when you are 6 or 7th deep in a row of cars and that one person behind will zonk out and feed your rear tire into his bumper. Or, when your the 2nd at that goofy-ass, confusing stoplight/intersection, and the guy behind you mistakes an adjacent stoplight as his cue.

This may seem like a farce when riders talk about it, as if it is some bullshit, soft-justification for lane splitting. It isn't. A lot of riders get lucky and don't get rear ended. As a commuter the odds fall less in your favor as the miles rack up.

good luck out there.

I'm almost etched in stone that this won't become a habit. I ride strictly for fun and am in no hurry to get where I'm going.

hmmm... for me it's not about being in a hurry.

I just don't like being part of the cattle. It's much easier to filter than worry about being squashed between two (or more) asshats.

How do you stay just ahead of traffic flow without sharing?

You have much to learn young padawan.

I stay ahead of the traffic flow by just staying in my lane, if I have to wait or follow a slow car then that's what I do.

"You have much to learn young padawan" :thumbup

My mantra is to never stop learning so bring it on barf!

i usually dont share lanes because i feel its better to get rear ended then T-Boned.

And you care why how many posts a person has? What relevance does your post have?

Please explain why your post count is more/less important than someone elses.

don't worry about Traq. he seems to be the designated contrarian and all-around stick-in-the-mud here :twofinger

Anyone ever do a wheelie while lane splitting? Been trying to rack up the courage but I get too nervous.

OK, I'll contribute something other than a smart ass comment in this thread.

I often read posts that start with, "I never..." or "I always..." There are a couple of them in this thread.

The road has a tendency to throw curve balls and if you haven't weighed (and practiced) all your options, you're gonna find yourself on the ground. Hopefully not under someone's wheels.
