What do you collect besides dust?

I used to have to do it for work a lot. When I lived in Oakland I had this super long steep and all fucked up driveway that I had to back my boat up and turn into the garage, most without any visibility of the trailer at all. I'm pretty good at backing up a trailer....
 
I learned on the big stuff, myself.
Forklift driver in a Mobile home plant, slap a sticker (wood spacers to allow forks in) across the forks behind the hitch, then park it.
I did need spotters for I'm right up against the ball, and 12' wide, 40' long.
They wanted them double wides close, to keep the carpet & furniture, laid loose inside, safe & secured

Hardest to back up are short, one axle trailers, like for jet skis, they turn quick, easy to get crossed up.
Tandem wheels are steadier, track straighter, more effort to turn.

Backing the Kendon up on the 1 ton is fuuuucking tedious. Blink and you're jackknifed.

I know I collect sneakers. Mostly Air Jordans.

But after some thought and doing a quick count in my head of some other things, it seems as if I a actively collecting those things and didn’t even realize it.

I have more than 10 pocket knives.

Probably at least the same amount of flashlights.

And the fact that the last couple of sub $300 watches I’ve bought haven’t even come out of the box yet? Yeah I’m collecting those too it seems.
 
I tend to collect things that have uses. Like I have flashlights at every exterior door in my home. A huge and powerful flashlight on my night stand. Some LED lanterns scattered around the house. And some small headlamps, also hanging on the exterior doors.

Was on a job back in the day where we were out in a rural area towing an ATV on a trailer and needed to turn around. There was no pullout and simply wasn't enough room to do a u turn. Dude driving didn't want to try backing up so asked if I knew how to with a trailer. I didn't but I didn't tell him that as I thought it would be no big deal. I switch to the driver seat and aimed for one of two adjacent driveways behind us that were separated by a ditch. Start backing up and then sawing at the steering wheel trying to get a handle on what's happening.
The trailer enters the driveway almost dead centre and I go no further than what's needed. Dude complements my trailer backing skills and I didn't say much. Didn't bother telling him I was actually aiming for the other driveway.

Rocks and mermaids, mostly. I collected most of my `50’s, `60’s and `70’s mermaids decades ago from thrift stores and yards sales for a few bucks here and there. The prices they bring nowadays is ludicrous.
Rocks are free, and they’re everywhere. I always seem to have a few in my pocket. I always have my bucket, gloves, rock hammer, and 2-person rock carrier in the car just in case.

Rocks I forgot I do collect rocks. a few small ones. But also large ones, as big as I can lift. We put them around the landscape. Have a few granite rocks from the Sierra, a red rock from just outside Winslow AZ, a beach rock from Usal Beach and a chunk of coral from No Name Key in the Florida Keys. Nice way to remember trips.

We spend a lot of time on Little Stony Creek up near Stonyford, and that creek never fails to deliver spectacular rocks in winter and spring. I got a 2-person pot lifter that works great on rocks too big to lift! We have used it on pots, too, because I guess I collect trees, too. I counted 98 red cedar and ponderosa pine seedlings on our property this spring, before giving up and just saying I have a lot of seedlings 😄
 
Tools. Latest purchases were a case splitter, plastic rivet thingy remover and I finally after all these years got one of them thar hanging bottles ya put gas in so I can bench test carbs for leaking and start up engines without having the gas tank on.
