I'm hosting a Superbowl party at my house. so I'm trying to decide on a menu. I'm debating about keeping it simple and just ordering a couple of pizzas and some fried chicken.

What's on your menu?

Kale and spinach smoothie with some turmeric and ginger root. I guess I can splurge now and toss in an avocado.

Evidently the host this year has decided on all appetizers.

Li'l Smokies sausages in BBQ sauce
Shark coochie (Charcuterie, e.g. sliced meats (capicola, proscuitto, coppa, genoa salami, etc.) and cheeses, olives, tapenades, spreads, mustards, etc.)
7-layer dip and tortilla chips
Coors Light and Altamont Maui Waui IPA
Small eclairs for dessert

I'm heading over to a friends house. I'll be bringing over a Mexican Chicken Salad with tostadas and some Corona Familiar. There's always heavy appetizers so I usually like to bring something lighter to snack on.

Flanken style beef ribs smoked on the grill along with chicken wings also smoked.

Three-peat salad and Indian tacos.

Hopefully a main course of more post season RECORDS from Travis Kelce and a BUNCH of Patrick Mahomes doing Patrick Mahomes things.
With a side of Andy Reid, Chris Jones and Steve Spagnuolo and a THREE PEAT for dessert.
Fixed.

Something from Pier 23. I used to really enjoy visiting SF on stupid bowl Sunday, back when it was a vibrant city, full of wide eyed tourists. Being able to park and go anywhere was great. Since the pandemic though, it's always pretty dead (good for me and my wife when we ride there). Now we park on Battery off the Embarcadero - there is always parking, and it's free on Sunday.

Wait, what did I just do? Oh no, Battery will be full of freeloading BARFers now on Sundays..... :twofinger The folks at Pier 23 are really cool, and the street tacos, (beer) fish tacos, (beer), breakfast sandwich (beer) and fish and chips are really good. Better wiith beer of course. Tell Craig the bartender / food order taker that Ken and Lynn say hello.

Beer and wings. If you want something else, you gotta bring it yourself.

Just put up a big chunk of salmon that will become gravlax in 24 hours.
I’ll serve it on crostinis with dill yogurt
Going to a buddies house to watch the game

Chili two ways, one for the wusses, the other for normal people.

Plus salad, chips, salsa and flan. Beer on hand for those who cannot abide an empty hand while the sangria will flow.

Sure, the game will be on but without the sound, it pretty much gets ignored anyway. Besides, during halftime on the back patio, interest in the game fades away in favor of discussing our latest moto-escapades and debacles.

But chili, people, chili. I get to shine.

All right, I'll throw this out there because I make this at least 50% of the Sundays during football season. It's the best fucking bean dip in the world.

2 cans of black beans
1 onion
1 can of petite diced tomatoes (I actually prefer salsa style tomatoes with jalapenos. Whatever tomato can makes you happy.)
4-5 cloves of garlic
1/2 tbsp of chipotle chili powder
3/4 tbsp Better than Bouillon Smoky Chipotle
3/4 tbsp Better than Bouillon Sofrito
Large handful of fresh cilantro

  1. Dice the onion.
  2. Chop the garlic.
  3. Saute the onion in oil of your choice until it gets transluscent
  4. Add the garlic and saute until you can REALLY smell it. Don't let it burn because garlic gets bitter. Just cook it until it's very fragrant.
  5. Add the tomatoes. Increase the heat and cook down until at least 50% of the tomato liquid cooks off.
  6. Reduce heat to medium. Add the better than bouillon (Sofrito and Chipotle) and the smoked chipotle powder. I actually don't measure anything any longer so I'm estimating the amounts. The better than bouillon is very salty so add a little less and taste and decide if you want to add more. The heat comes mainly from the smoked chipotle powder, so add as much as you want until it's as spicy as you prefer.
  7. Drain abut 50% of the liquid from the beans, then add the two cans of beans.
  8. Stir everything together and let it cook together for a few minutes. It should get to a nice bubbling simmer.
  9. Grab a potato masher and mash it until you get the consistency you prefer. I like it when about 50% of the beans are mashed. As the dip simmers the mashed beans will merge with the liquid and become pretty thick, starchy sauce.
  10. Turn off the heat. Rip cilantro leaves off a clump of cilantro and add to the dip. Stir until the cilantro leaves are fully wilted and thoroughly mixed in the dip
Serve it hot or cold. It's freaking delicious either way. I like corn chips so that's my preference, but this makes the best freaking bean burrito filling in the history of humanity. Sometimes I just eat it as a bowl of beans.

You can't go wrong because it's stupid simple to make, makes the whole kitchen smell fantastic and is fucking delicious. It makes beer better. It makes sex better. It makes everything better.
