What is the farthest you traveled to buy a motorcycle

Kansas City for my well prepped high mileage Real Strom. Got to ride most of my favorite Colorado & Utah roads, plus meet 2 buddies at Fish Lake Utah and rode through hail and a flash flood. We bought CBRs from a dealer in Arkansas and my motorcycle mentor towed to Albuquerque and I threw it in the pickup.

Bought our Goldwing from a guy up in Cottage Grove, Oregon. Sandy and I drove up there in our smart car, and I rode the Wing home, with Sandy following in the car. First ride on the Wing was 700 miles home. Why did we buy it in Oregon? Sidecar rigs don't show up for sale very often, and Goldwing sidecar rigs even less often so you often have to travel a bit.

Fly-and-ride San Diego to Marin for a used R1100S with Ohlins and other tricks. Money was burning a hole in my pocket and couldn't wait for a local one.

Reno to SoCal, Aprilia RS250

I went to Redding one time and picked up my 2007 750 GSXR. Very nice place.

Not cool up there at the moment though. Hopefully everyone is safe.

From Miami to Jacksonville to pick up my former 2004 VFR (RIP) before I moved to CA.

Smoking deal...totally worth the ~700 mile round trip day. Nothing like a pissed off wife to motivate a seller. :)

The furthest is I drove from SJ to SF to get the Alta...
Hellish living in the center of the universe. Ya’ think?

When I lived in south Mississippi, I bought my CB1000F from a seller in Oxford, Arkansas.

I flew to Memphis, where I was met by the seller and his wife. They drove us 4 hours to their home, even bought me lunch at their favourite catfish restaurant or something.

Then I closed the sale (PayPal) and rode the bike home to Mississippi same day. The ride was about 12 hours. The speedo cable broke about 5 miles into the trip. Google tells me it is a 534 mile journey, but I got lost (this was 2004 and GPS was not really a thing) and probably added at least 100 miles to my ride. Very likely more since it took so long.

Just drove a little over 800 miles each way to Washington to buy a 2018 701 sm with 2200 miles and 20 months of warranty left. Paid $8k plus $380 in gas

So I can assume that you arranged insurance beforehand w/your existing insurance agency? Makes little sense to be on the road without coverage. ;)

Your insurance usually covers you automatically for a new purchase for up to 72 hours, or something of the like.

Check with your insurer, but most I know of do this.

LA, twice. Flew in, rode back on the longest path possible for one day.

drove to Aspen CO from San Jose to pickup an RVF400. bike was built by a local shop and he swore it was perfect. drove out and back in a weekend. biggest mistake I have ever made buying a bike.

Lots of great stories on here guys

Lol to less than 40 miles and the other guys with short buys only

Chicago to buy an ST1300. Sweet 3 day ride home, would do it again in a heartbeat. Actually I'm looking at an Africa Twin in Wisconsin at the moment too :)

Fly and ride to Portland to pick up my 2002 BMW R1150GS. Girlfriend flew in day after and we spent 6 days coming home over 1,500 miles. Camping all the way in early June. Epic trip, excellent bike, still have the bike and us it as a daily commuter.
