What mean "delta"?

Delta is the difference in speed between two objects. One traveling at 20mph, and another at 60mph in the same direction would have a delta of 40mph.

ETA: if they were traveling opposed to each other, they would have a delta of 80mph.

the fourth letter of the greek alphabet (Δ, δ). anything triangular, like the Greek capital delta (Δ). Mathematics. an incremental change in a variable, as Δ or δ.

So, with us biker dudes, it's the incremental difference between our speed and the speed of other vehicles around us.

A bike at 65 mph with a car at 55 mph, going the same direction, has a delta of 10 mph. At 150 mph and 140 mph, the delta is still 10. Although, I would rather hit the 55 mph car, thanks.

It a trendy thing everybody on Barf says now a days, not unlike the word "bullying" which you hear in the media every day. Oh and don't forget taking selfies, make sure to do that too.:teeth

It's also used in the corporate word just as "difference". Not relating to the speed of two objects.

It's not just the difference in speed.
In math it's a representation for change.
It can be used for speed, temperature, voltage, current, pressure, volume and many other variables.

Example....
If the high temp for the day was 100 degrees and the delta (difference) between that and the low for the day was 40... what was the low temp for the day?

We started with 4 gallons of gas and ended with 2 1/2 gallons. The delta was 1 1/2 gallons.

or in architectural drawing development revision notes short hand : change to ...

(symbol is a triangle)

"delta" abc table to xyz table

Also a crappy airline. And faucets. And a shape for wings.

...it's not new at all, it's a math term I learned decades ago.

It's where you drive your boat and get drunk.

Not even close to trendy. Its been a very common word forever for anyone thats ever done math class or had to report a difference of two measurements. Difference doesn't matter what the units are.

The ratio comparing the change in the price of the underlying asset to the corresponding change in the price of a derivative. Sometimes referred to as the "hedge ratio."

I think that means amount of leverage.

I thought we were talking about Delta Burke's ? :dunno

Another one I missed, dammit. Haven't uttered it in years, except in context to our nearby tweaker preserve.

No, I don't hear "delta" I lot, but I sure hear "meta" and "metadata" a lot.
Still don't know WTF they are talkin' about.
