What's the skinny on being given a 'warning'?

Aren't there any 80 zones? And I thought the bad stuff didn't kick in until double limit. Some arbitrary feel good number doesn't make sense.

The max speed limit in California is 65 mph, with select few freeways at set 70. The max on a 2 lane road is 55 mph.

I’ve been blessed by warnings and send thanx to LEO’s all over for that and our safety. Sounds like law enforcement is alot like forestry in that they are essentially self-sustaining, be it infraction income or timber sales. Self-funded is what my forester kiddo said recently when I asked her about possible state funding cuts. Being legitimately stopped on the road and then warned has made me a more careful driver and I’m grateful for that.

CHP does not receive any of the revenue from traffic fines. Local cop shops do not directly receive any of the revenue from traffic fines. It goes into the general fund of the municipality.

And only a very small amount at that goes into the general fund. The vast majority goes to the courts and other special funding allowed by the state.

So no, traffic enforcement is not self sustaining. That's not something we'd want, as a society, either.

Thanx for the useful input here. Upon a deeper dive Timber sales do go directly to Dept of Forestry in my state, but there it goes to county level.
Not to derail, agree that we really wouldn’t want that punitively as in LE.

I spend my time chasing down 42 mph felonies. There's a few areas with 55 mph speed limits that I'll enforce in the 70 mph range. Mostly lower speeds. I've only been running lidar only for the last 4 1/2 years out of my 29 year career, so relatively recently. I've never issued a triple digit speeding ticket. I've also never lost a lidar ticket in court either.

Last year I hit my career record of cites written at 1,002. One year, prior to Motors, I got 50 DUIs. Those are my traffic records.
Impressive- especially without moving radar on board. You'd think a small town folks would get the hint and slow down...

When I worked in California we tracked warnings for some very specific violations. They were associated with businesses and records (one example is the requirement to have the records in English (FGC 8050)).

The agency I am currently working with (outside California) has a procedure where warning can be entered. If the person is encountered again the warning will show up with the details the officer entered. I have seen warnings for specific traffic violations entered.

So only "same agency" accessible?
