What's your favorite poverty meal that you still eat regardless of where you are financially?

I still see them for ~50 cents per lb for 10 lb bags in my area, bone in. leg quarters

Yeah if you can commit to the family packs they're still cheap. Since its just me & my partner I generally go for the 4-6 thigh packs since that's more manageable for dinner + 1-2 lunch leftovers.

I break the pack up into multiple bags of 2 leg quarters and they're good for several months frozen. I bought like 2 10lb bags of leg quarters and I didn't have to buy dark meat chicken for well over 6 months.

Baked beans with polish sausage, cut the sausage into thin slices and fry them in a pan and add them to the baked beans. serve in a bowl with some sharp cheddar cheese on top and a piece of bread to mop up the bowl. A 16 ounce can of B&M and about a third of a Hillshire farms polish sausage could fill up 2 people easy.

can't find B&M baked beans around here anymore .

Lots of protein in these meals.

None of you know real poverty. First World poverty. :rofl

It isn't a contest to have with shithole countries, it is true.

In this country, protein is some of the cheapest food you can get and a lot of homeless live off it.

Yep, I was poor when young. No one has listed "milk toast" or "bread and gravy" no meat in the gravy. But I am well aware many others would have thought I had it good.

Chicken top ramen with grilled SPAM strips and fried egg on top. :love

Get a load of Rockefeller over here! :laughing

My dad would make something we called "egg mess."

A couple tortillas, an egg, and a little bit of butter.

Get your skillet warmed up, melt the butter.

Tear up the tortillas into almost chip sized bits.

Add the tortillas to the melted butter and stir until they get toasty.

Crack and scramble the egg into the tortillas.

Enjoy.

I have expanded on his recipe, adding extras like linguica, "potatoes O'Brien" and cheese, but the original still holds high esteem.

Costco Polish Sausage. Biggest blunder ever was ditching them, the hot dogs suck ass comparatively.

I wish I knew how many years it's been since I had a Costco hot dog (or any hot dog for that matter). I told my wife a few weeks back I may break down and scarf one at Costco soon.

Please, everyone, allow the gatekeeper to decide all matters.
He alone knows the true meaning of poverty.

Let him show you that leftover grease on stale bread is full of protein and frankly is one of the most nutritious meals available for children.

He is the one. :hail

Chicken pot pie over noodles.

Stroganoff-Smith style, ground beef, dried onion, salt & pepper, Campbell's mushroom soup, sour cream, Kitchen Bouquet (for color), Parmesan cheese, extra wide egg noodles..

Between the GI Bill and part time at $2 an hour I was styling and used sliced round steak in my Stroganoff. Didn’t need no color and I hadn’t yet caught on to the Pizza Hut provided Parmesan cheese. Is it true you can actually buy Parmesan cheese?
