What's your favorite poverty meal that you still eat regardless of where you are financially?

not sure if this is poverty food but it's fucking cheap and I find it simply delicious. it's also not bad macronutrient wise depending on what chips you may or may not add

3 pounds ground beef / turkey / chicken
3 15oz cans of kidney beans
3 8oz cans tomato sauce
1 onion
3 garlic cloves

1) dice onions and garlic
2) brown onions/garlic/meat in pan
3) once browned add tomato sauce
4) in pyrex, layer meat mixture + beans
5) bake in 350 oven for 35min uncovered then 10min uncovered

to serve add sour cream to taste + some chips from your favorite brand

no idea whats its called.

"queso dip"

literally just a can of beanless chili and a block of cream cheese mixed together.

Rice Krispies trigger some childhood memory sensation of life being good with not a care in the world. No other food does that.

Boxed Mac & cheese with a can of chopped up Vienna sausages added.

I have a savings account so no poverty meals for me!

lol - reminds me of a feral cat we found - fed it cat food, but it was so used to eating garbage, it passed up the kibble and routinely raided the kitchen trash. can totally relate. when we were super poor, we’d fry up a about a 1/4 pound of ground beef and mix it with 2 cups of rice and eat that every night (split between us). when we started to make bank, we graduated to hamburger patties smothered in beans (at the time it felt like we were living the high life). still make that periodically, but now add shredded cheese and hot sauce (couldn’t afford either extravagance at the time, but it adds a nice touch now - and it’s always a comforting trip down memory lane).

Turkey thighs and lamb shanks are cheap cuts of meat that turn out great in a slow cooker. Leftovers mean the next meal is free!

I was thinking about starting almost this exact thread on Saturday as I was shoving my white trash amuse bouche into my mouth.

Favorite quick snack: 3 Pringles chips with a slice of ham folded between them like a mini sandwich.

Favorite sweet: peanut butter and jelly sandwich on freshly toasted frozen blueberry or strawberry waffles.

Used to be on the list but now it's way too much sodium: Run a little water over an uncooked Ramen pack and sprinkle the flavored salt on and eat it dry and crunchy.

I used to do ramen stir-fry, also.

Take 4 packs of ramen, a pound of cheap ground beef, chop up an onion. Brown the ground beef, add some salt/pepper, drain the fat, and add 2 of the flavoring packs to it, remove from the pan, then brown the onion, then mix 'em. Make the noodles with hot water, drain them, and add them into the pan, stir the mixture around until mixed, and sprinkle the other 2 flavoring packs over the top.

Serves one large boy or two adults.

Thai style egg over rice.

Get a medium pan of oil really hot, scramble two eggs with soy sauce (or fish sauce). Make sure to get the eggs really scrambled. Put the eggs in the hot oil and cook it fast, only flipping once. When done, lay it on top of a plate of rice and put some siracha on top.

That got me through my brokest days in college and I still love to eat it.
