I just wanna see how often you guys use your rear break....I've heard from some people not to use it and from others that it is very useful...

i tend to apply the rear brake most of the time i use my front. i just don't put as much pressure on it. 80% front 20% rear or something like that

Ditto.

I don't have enough skills to use the rear brake and get any results from it. It just takes attention away, and I always think I am going to lock the rear tire so I don't even bother.

Only use it in the wet or when I am on gravel. Then, very carefully. Didn't I see a test somewhere that the stopping distance from 80 w/ and w/o the back brake was about 5 feet or less?

I use the rear brake when I have a break in my front brake lines, or if I break the brake lever... .

Sometimes I use the rear brake when I'm broke and can't afford front brake pads.

:laughing

You need to add some options to the poll! I only use the rear brake when I'm riding two up, or in the rain.

coming up on a corner a bit hot, first the front, light touch on the rear, let off on the front and keep light pressure on rear(if needed) and continue through the corner. I've been told it can help hold your line, seems to be about right.

Only on left turns!!

I did that on Empire Grade passing a car uphill and it worked nicely for me.

kinda iffy about right turns since your feet get closer to the pavement.

a thumb mounted rear brake would be awesome.

some of the bikes I had from the 80s had the worst brakes compared to what's on motorcycles of today....

I had to use the rear brakes ( can anyone say Kawasaki 750 Triple, GS 1100E ) once the bike was in motion and needed to stop quickly....

Nowadays, I have linked brakes that does it for me but otherwise, I only used it for fun and certain situations on a non-link brake motorcycle...

A good use for the rear brake is when you are too late slowing down for a turn and because of the amount of braking you have to do the front end loads up and starts to dive. If you apply the rear brake enough so that the rear end will begin to squat the chasis will more or less even out again, unloading the front end, and it's easier to enter the turn. The rear brake does scrub off speed if you don't lock it up, but I almost never use my rear brake unless I'm going (rather trying to go) fast. But I do cover it when slowing and stopping just in case the need arises to use it. The rear brake is not completely useless, just ask someone who rides a cruiser. :)

when do I use the rear brake?
Each and every time I ride my motorcycle which is every day, at least 2x day.
Does that make me a freak?

I use the back brake for trail braking and for steadying the bike in corners. Probably 80/20 front to back like some other people.
