I have always wondered how much my bike weighs and since internet searches offer conflicting weights I thought I would finally get around to it. Where should I go?

You can get within about five pounds by using a bathroom scale and weighing one wheel, then the other, then adding the two values. If you want to keep it completely level when doing this, use a 2x4 or something for the other tire to rest on. I've weighed a few bikes this way. Requires a bit of care to balance it without pushing down any.

If you don't want to do the bathroom scale method, You can get it weighed at most commercial scales. Typically $10

Truck scales. http://catscale.com/ is a common one. Many truck stops also have scales

Another option is to go to a less busy Junk/scrap yard and ask them if they'd let you put the bike on the scale and tip them a few bucks etc

Another option, if you live close to a landscape rock/dirt/bark supply place, is to use their scale. Usually free....

go to a waste management site. ask the clerk nicely to weigh your bike on the scale. if they're cool, they will even give you a printout of the weight. sometimes if you bring something like a bag of soda cans, they can weigh your bike as part of the transaction to see how much junk you have. thats how i weighed my old race car.

I've used the scrap yard in San Leandro (Davis St.) many times...

But my bro weighs his race car w/4 corner scales under each tire. He can then adjust various adjusters to have one wheel weigh more/less than the other for better handling on the specific track he's at...cool.

Pick up your motorcycle, get on the scale, take note of the weight. Step off the scale, put your bike down, step back onto the scale, take note of your weight. Subtract your weight from the weight of you holding your motorcycle. The difference is how much your motorcycle weighs.

I went to my local dump and dude weighed my SuMo for free.

Yeah go to a dump site, wait in line, get off the bike and ask a dude at the booth how much does your bike weigh.

That only works with two stroke dirt bikes.

just a big note.

if you use a commercial scale (cat, etc) tell the weigh master ---or clerk, this is for personal use only. or the dmv will get a copy.
not a biggie for a bike but even a pu truck get taxed based of weight. :wow

.

I'd recommend finding any commercial truck weighing station. There are plenty along 880 in Oakland.

Hey David, take your bike to a local recycle center (there's one right by my work off Florin and French). Give the guy a pack of cigarettes or a 6 pack of beer.

i used to work for KJ wineries

we had a gigantic scale for the 18wheelers, plopped in the middle of our parking lot

they had to weigh out everytime they had a full load of wine

maybe if you can find a wine distribution/trucking center, they maybe have a giant scale like KJ did in their parking lot
