This is going to seem like a really dumb question but i am getting my bike this weekend and i don't wanna look retarded ....where is nuetral on the shifting pattern i know its "1 down 4 up" but where is nuetral in all that ...if i can figure that out i will be set thanks for all your help

It's between first and second. Lift the shifter half a click from first.

It can be tricky to find too.. so be careful! ;)

It may have the green N light on the guage cluster too. But, it's hard to rely on that, so watch out for false neutrals on those aprillias. Let the clutch out slowly. Even if it is a 50.

u talking about your 50? or are u getting another bike?

Just remember that you can find neutral by either going half up from first, or half down from second. On some bikes it's easier to get into neutral from first, others from second, and others you just can't find it.

i am talking about the GSXR i am getting this weekend my aprilia is a *auto* (don't laugh) wow thanks for all the help :blush

With my gear box I have 2. one inbetween first and second and one in place of fourth gear.

Damn Triumph gearbox.

off topic, but why is Pastapowers box yellowish :confused

(me thinks it's yellowish b'cause of his "mojo")

try this-

1 down, 5 up

1 down- first
next up- neutral
up again- second
third
fourth
finally-fifth

You may have to roll the bike forward or back a little sometimes (depending on the bike) to snick it into N.

nice i was just so worried that i would get the bike let out the clutch and it would just jump out from under me since i thought it was in nuetral...oh and don't worry i am signed up for MSF basic and advanced classes. i am 17 so i thought it would look good to the insurance classes:teeth

find an empty lot and practice practice practice

find an empty lot and practice practice practice.. you'll be grinding... oops finding the gears in no time.. have fun:teeth

Yea i have driven stick my whole life ( i lived on farm) but i am just kinda nervous would you guys say its easier to learn on a bike after knowing stick in car?

I learned to "drive" a manual tranny on a bike before a car. Its not so much being able to use it but knowing how/why it works that lets you make the transition easily.

I think driving a bike is easier than a stick in a car. Already knowing how to drive a stick will help. Makes it easier to make smooth shifts. It's a lot easier than it sounds. When you get the bike, sit on it and practice shifting up and down. You might need to rock it back and forth a little to get it through all the gears, but it's pretty easy.
