Wanted to get some ideas on where to sell my 2009 CBR 600RR. Is Craigslist what people turn to when shopping for one? Are there any reputable dealerships or motorcycle stores that sell bikes on behalf of owners?

Thanks!
KP

I had both of my last bikes up on Facebook Maketplace and Craigslist. They both ended up selling through Facebook contacts. Same goes for nearly everything else I've sold in the last few months, everyone seems to have migrated away from Craigslist.

CL seems to be a waste of time lately. Nothing but scam and low ball. I'm trying to sell a couple of my bikes (so I can buy a new one!), and it's been a :thumbdown. And I don't facebook..........

I think CL still works, but it takes a bit more effort these days. The trick, I've found, is to be able to spot scams and ignore them. All other contacts get minimal time invested until they prove they're legitimate. Anyone who has some excuse why they can't communicate via email gets ignored because they're either a scammer or a complete idiot.

If you don't want to deal with CL then your best bets are BARF, other moto forums, and Facebook. If you go the FB route, I'd look around for a group that's specific to your bike, brand, or area. I know there are at least a couple of Ducati-specific FB groups for the Bay Area where bikes and parts regularly change hands. Dunno about CBRs/Hondas.

CL can still be effective, you just have to wade through the sea of bullshit. I've sold a bunch of vehicles on CL, but hadn't in a while up until last year. Transaction went ok, sold quickly for close to what I wanted, but did get a tidal wave of bullshit as well.

In person transactions only, cash or bank transfer IN PERSON, period. No funny business and you'll be fine. Just ignore the bullshit.

Santa Clara Cycle Accessories, J&M Motorsports and Evolution Motorcyces sell bikes on consignment and are BARF sponsoirs.

I think I will take my KTM to one of them...

BARF classified are really good and reach an inteligent readership, but somehow not everyone in the bay area knows about BARF. Amazing.

Brand management fail................

And yeah the "having trouble with the CL mail" is a red flag....so many of those. One of the latest is having someone direct me to the vin check site "Spy VIN". Pretty sure they were just shilling for that site, so be aware of that as well.

Advertising my KTM 990 Adventure in the BARF Classifieds got me no action at all. I had pretty much given up and was ready to haul it here to Idaho, but thought I could stick it on Craigslist for a few days just in case. Got a buyer right away and four other interested people. Only one scam contact as far as I could tell.

Apparently selling a bike isn't the same for everybody on the various for sale sites.

To add my $0.02... I buy and sell numerous bikes every year. When selling I advertise on both CL and BARF. So far I've had better results selling through CL. I assume this is simply because it hits a much wider audience.

As others have mentioned, you have to sort through some BS when using CL. But that doesn't mean BARF is immune to flakes either. I'm especially annoyed by the folks posting motos wanted on BARF, then when you reply with something that fits the description of what they are looking for... and they don't respond, or ever post that their search has concluded. Very annoying:x

I think most people forget to check and/or don't subscribe to their own posted threads.

There is this huge randomness factor. The bike, the buyer, the seller... the stars must align.

Someone buy my KTM dammit!

It seems to be easier to sell a house than a KTM right now. :nchantr

apparantly so. It only takes 24 hours to sell a house, and if you price too low the public will up the bidding.

CL & FB are free, here you can make a small donation is it sells. Why wouldn't you post on all?

I bought a bike about a month ago(well a scooter but don't tell anyone). Found it on a FB group.
