whixh barf sponsor wants to sell me a dual sport helmet?

Yep, as mentioned, the larger chin area helps with ventilation, the larger/wider shield improves visibility, and the visor helps keep the sun outa yer eyes.....

...but my fav reason to own it is still- It looks bad ass.:teeth

(Back when I had the Duke, it's gone now)

I agree with you about the real reason, but each of the advantages you listed also have faults.

Larger chin for ventilation = face gets colder in the winter
Larger shield for visibility = greater chance of injury to your face in an accident
Visor for the sun = damn sail at high speeds (although rare on a SM)

If I rode a sumo on the dirt at all I'd rock a dual sport helmet, but if it was exclusively to fool around on the street I'd stick to a street helmet.

Good points, and so-
I wear my street helmet when it's cold.
I'm not concerned with the risk of more injury due to the larger shield, if that makes a difference I'll have far more to worry about.
The visor is well vented, even at 100 (sv650) it only pulled my head back if I looked up, was fine looking ahead.
:)

what's the point of a dual sport helmet looking the way it does, like why do you need a bigger chin area and a sun visor for dual sport riding?

It's so you can 'suck air'... :laughing Your intake grill is farther away, unlike a street helmet..

Try heavy physical activity in a tight street helmet.... you'll understand..

Oh.. the duck bill helps deflect branches as well as keep the sun out of your eyes.,.. it does nothing for dust though.. hahah..
