Who Ham? You Ham?

Anyone have a used 2M base or mobile transceiver for sale? Or even a 2M/70cm unit?

All I have right now is an HT and I would like to set up a little shack in the garage. Just some 2nd hand stuff for local repeaters in the evening.

I've got several used HT's & "mobiles" sitting around in the closet gathering dust. I'm sure we can get you going w/something...let me do an inventory & see what I got...

:laughing didn't we get our licenses on the same day?

You guys had 8 people hand in their test in between when you both finished. :laughing

That would be great, thanks. Not looking for anything fancy at all. Just something to hit local repeaters with.

I am close by in Hayward.

Anyone use EchoLink?

I'm going to slap that on the laptop tonight and see if I can dig a mic out of the garage. :D

Lots of people do; I never have because I concentrate on HF these days.

I have done a lot of vhf/uhf repeater "ragchew" for many years back in the 80's when I was truck driving all over the state.

I didn't get a chance to set it up last night, but I have a long weekend :p

Maybe tonight.

Kilo Delta 6 Alpha Hotel X-ray over here. Expired lol. Got to renew. My dad got me into it when I was young. He is an extra license holder - Alpha Alpha 6 Zulu Paoa.

We started through CB radio.

It's been what? Two years? FCC rules are pretty common sense.

Don't hold the black and the white wires at the same time.. Pretty easy stuff to remember. :laughing

Sorry, been offline since Sat. (internet down, thanks AT&T), so just getting back on here after going thru all kinds of crap...

Had 3 techs here at one time yesterday, still one pinning cables down. It just went down again so I don't know what the heck...

wazzuFreddo haven't forgotten about you...just house been in an uproar w/net down. My two college kids are going nuts w/o the web! :laughing

Your station, Freddo? :laughing

That's pretty nice; including the antique stuff to the left. The modern stuff to center w/3 nice transceivers & pc's for all. Wow.....

Notice it's a UK callsign...

I wouldn't have a clue what that call sign means. :laughing

I just posted it because of all the motorcycles. :thumbup

that's a fine rig from what I hear. HF/2m both right?

It's designed to be a mobile/in car rig, but plenty of people use them at home off of a power supply. W/an amp & big antenna you can work the entire planet....:D

Looking up in the closet I discover:
= (I may be talked into selling some of these; or trade for work/help on my KAW ZRX1200):
IC-90S Handheld tri-band transceiver 5watts 2m/440/6m
IC-2800H 2M "mobile" - 55watts powerhouse FM - work distant repeaters/Satellite's/tropospheric DX
IC-706MKII 2m/HF mobile - CW/AM-FM/SSB/Data- 100w HF/I think 25w FM?
^ the above is the cats meow for starter rigs= mobile/base
TM-742 "Tri-Bander" 2m/440/3rd band modules acceptable =220/900/1200Mhz

For my base station:
IC-756 Pro HF/6m "Base Station" 100watt, work the world great receiver.
Ten-Tec "Titan" 1500w Linear Amplifier - when you need a bit more signal
1/2 dozen antenna's for most of the bands
bunch of electronic kits for building I never got around to
numerous power supplies/kits/assorted electronic junk

when you doing yuour antenna party Dave?

Soon as I can. Problem has been for the last decade or so is broken rotators. I think the antenna is just too big for the rotators I've tried. (Hy-Gain "Tailtwister" T2X.) The T2X has a spec of 50% more ability than needed, but it keeps breaking them (5 so far.) It's rated at 20sq. ft. wind load, & my antenna is only 11sq. ft., but it keeps breaking them anyway. Strange. Hams say "it should cover it w/a wide margin," but it doesn't.

I've been having them rebuilt ($400), but they seem to go a few months & break again. It's downright infuriating. To go to the next class up is about $1300 minimum (Yaesu GS2800); I've been looking for used/rebuilt ones but that large size used are hard to find. It's also out of my price range new.

Shoot if I gotta spend that much may as well get shocks or a pipe for the bike.

I've about given up & going to put up a wire or something, so maybe sometime this spring. OR if I ever find a cheap rotator, I'll need about 5 helpers who are healthy & have strength. I'm just too weak to do it myself, & there's no pros that do this excepting $250+ an hour pro antenna guys. I need someone who'd comfortable on a ladder...
