Who is a good DSL provider these days?

I use Speakeasy with a 1.5/384 and 4 IPs package for $90/month + $3/month for each IP over 2. Speakeasy is AWESOME when it comes to tech support. Their online control panel is really easy to use and has all the info I need, and they answer requests within a couple hours if you submit online. I run my own email/web servers, so I don't know how their hosting and email services rate, but I would highly recommend them for anyone who needs more than basic DSL.

SBC...had them for 2 years...

Just don't get earthlink! I had them with dial up for 5 years and tried to upgrade to DSL. They made me wait 6 months, assured me I could get service within the week. I rewired the phonelines myself so I could get the line in my room. Modem arrived in the mail...set everything up...nothing worked... spent like 40 hours on tech support/customer service getting the run around..."hmm ok, here's your case number...it should be working next week"

Turned out that they just "were not able" to provide me with service...

So called SBC, got it setup and running perfect in a week...

EARTHLINK DIE!!!

Actually I'm more than 6k from the CO and have the 6mbit down/384 up package. (And actually see those speeds)

They also just lowered my price by 20 a month...

that's pretty amazing considering pacifica, the speed, with all the corrosion and all. sometimes if you have a real clean line ie: no faults, disturbers, bridge taps and the so on in sbc's network you will be able to acheive the higher speeds with the longer loop length. But the longer the loop length the more chances of some type of something in sbc's network will screw something up.

Ok...I'm reviving this a little. After posting in the Kitchen Sink, I was referred to this thread. And yes...I've read www.dslreports.com. At this point, I'm with Apex Telecom and they are garbage. Tech support, knowledge, troubleshooting...all the crapper. Focal (their backbone) just went under...so they're switching crap around. I've had too much crap in the past few days with Apex that I'm switching. So far, I have a preliminary order with Speakeasy. It's great for now. I can see the whole order go through on the TAC page. The only gripe I have is the price for what they offer (1.5M/128k = $59.95)(and, they offer RADSL for the package I'm signing up for...should that be an issue?). Granted, their service has been excellent so far...and they seem very well established. However, other companies are offering a bit more with lower prices. Take for instance, I was also considering DSL Extreme. Great prices (1.5M/128k = $39.95, 1.5M/256k = $49.95), static IP, Supernews usenet access (good server, from past usage), multiple email accounts and multiple web space accounts. I hear their customer service is great too! But...since I've just been burned by a smaller company, will DSL Extreme burn me too? Another option that offers quite some for less is also SBC/Yahoo DSL (1.5M/256k = $49.95). But...it's the big giant bad guy. Sooo....should I stick it out with Speakeasy? Or should I go with DSL Extreme or SBC Yahoo? Ken also suggested Covad. Tell me guys...what do you think?

I've been using SBC and have been fairly pleased with their service, aside from the fact that I'm too far from the nearest concentrator to get on 1.5 Mbps. :mad Since one can't use a computer without patronizing one "evil megacorp" or another, I don't have any further objections to SBC.

Just my $0.02.

been with pacbell for 4+ years now.... 0 problems (knock on wood).

I'm actually thinking of upgrading since I only have 384k down/128k up right now. (i'm very close to the CO so I'm getting 1.5MB down regularly, but I could sure use 5MB download). :teeth

i was with direct tv and got cut aswell, i went to dsl extreme, but would have rather went through sbc as their higher speed packages are alot cheaper..
