Who just bought a Vertemati SM?

some quick calculations based on a bare bones conversion project (ie., not including all the fluffy stuff like short front fender, guards, etc.):

Tires $200
Sprocket $50
Baja Kit $600
Brakes $500
Kickstand $20
___ $2870 for street
____$2200 for race (plus exhaust and you're not really gonna race with that stock suspension are you?)

retail $9800
6 speed
WP front forks & rear shock (a $3k item)

most of the above plus a few extra goodies and Akropovic exhaust, extra wide and long swing arm, etc.

Honda CRF400R race total $8699

I would MAKE the CRF450R a motard.

It's like $5700, a vert is like $10k. Thats a LOT of left over money for SM mods. :D

Oh yea, I am with the mindset for track only. I don't really care about street, but I'm sure you could use the CRF legally if you put in the effort to trick DMV. ;)

Didn't you just put a deposit on it? :twofinger :p :angel

yeah right, i have to sell my 929 first. wife said if i want
another bike i have to get rid of 2 or 3 bikes first.:laughing

I'm so owned in this thread.. I'll go hide in a hole or something. :(

I do love the Vert's don't get me wrong, just my understanding was that the CRF was a nice bike also. Guess I was wrong.

And I was referring to the Vert as the $10k motard.

I want one, but can't afford one just yet.

Pierre, you better post some pix of these 04 bikes, or at least their predecessors! ;)

I was thinking about getting an XR400, get two sets of rims, and use it for street and dirt. That'd be super TCG..

I have a KTM already too! I love it, just need to get a new shift cable, brake cable, and lets see... ride more!!!

Please eliminate me from your inquiries- it definitely wasn't me :teeth

And just to chuck in my 2c...

I would run a converted crf (or similar 450 4banger) as a track bike- the AMA rules favour the 450 class. That is if I were ever brave/competent enough to want to get on the track.

I definitely wouldn't run one as a road bike. 3000 miles is a plenty short enough service interval. Anything less would start to become a pain. 100 hour intervals would make me want to ride a different bike.
