Why are jeeps so spensive?

They hold their value extremely well. A 50's jeep is just as sought after as a 2000's jeep, and both can wheel extremely well.

A few of us just went to Hollister last weekend. Let me know when you want to go and i can probably drum up some tag-a-longs to go with.

Will do.

I'm thinking of considering the durango 5.7 for my next vehicle

Jeep Wrangler style autos have not appealed to me much, however my daughter just bought an Isuzu Rodeo, 1994, excellent body, V6, 262k on the odometer, pulls strong and burns just a little oil, for very little money. Needs a modern radio and front seat covers, and it'll be good to go. Fun vehicle, I like the looks of it and it overall suits me. I'll be borrowing it occasionally. :cool

Only problem is, she doesn't know when it was last run in 4-wheel, I've heard bad things about front differentials (correct term?) locking up due to non-use when put into 4-wheel. Gotta look into that. Anyone have experience with this? I have no knowledge/experience with 4-wheel drives. Gonna look to Google, I suppose.

bought brand new in 1984 for only $13,500.usd
i have dumped at least 30 grand into it.
and right now it sits in the driveway rusting :rofl with a blown U-joint. (been too wet to replace it).

Here's my '97 XJ, ordered it new. Much more versatile than the 2 door Wrangler IMHO. Kinda been thinking about selling it, but it would be "spensive". :teeth
Pretty rare 2 door, 5 speed stick, OME 3" lift, re-geared 3:73's, ARB lockers.
Wish the new Cherokee had solid axles. Only other model I'd consider would be the 4 door Rubi or a Jeep pickup. :( Sigh, maybe someday for a pickup.

Simple answer is because people want them. They are terrible at everything but off road. Almost everyone will recognize a CJ, YJ, TJ as a Jeep.

Recreational automobile offroading is just a dumb hobby. You're taking everything that is beautiful about the outdoors, and wrapping yourself in a cage so you don't get to properly see, hear or smell any of it, just to have the pleasure of going at the pace of molasses while you trash the landscape and beat the crap out of your car.

It only makes sense when you have actual logistical needs that require the transport of goods across undeveloped terrain. For instance, it makes sense when it comes to supplying villages in remote Himalayan foothills.

Do you do parties?

It's really hard not to point out the sheer hypocrisy of a post like this, when written by a motorcycle owner.

:facepalm

It's simply not for everyone.

If you every do a proper trail ride, you will realize that these guys are the ones picking up trash that hikers leave behind. They're the ones who leave things cleaner than they found them. They're the same guys that organize OHV trail clean-up parties. These are the same guys who take out their wives and kids. The ones who teach responsible off-road.

It's easy to throw around vaguely assumed blanket statements. We, as riders, get that everyday. Might as well throw the trail guys under the bus. Hell, while we're at it, shall we talk Muslims?

:rolleyes
