Why do most Starbucks customers use MacBooks?

I've used other people's a few times, certainly not enough to leverage the alleged benefits of Apple's ecosystem and OS, but enough to reach the conclusion that the physical hardware itself isn't unique or special, especially considering the price they charge.

I spilled water on my ancient 2006 iMac's keyboard and fried it, need to borrow a keyboard to get some stuff off the hard drive. Hook me up!

Pick up a cheapy drive reader thingy, it'll pay for itself first use.

I recognize that there is a fairly wide adoption rate on Mac among developers not just because its 'the best' or 'easiest' or whatever label. Its because most tech tutorial videos are produced on Macs for Macs. So if you're trying to just quickly follow a tutorial to learn a new dev skill, its 5x easier to follow it if you also have a Mac. Maybe this is because the artsy fartsy folks who produces creative contents ( like videos ) tend to favor Macs ?

Devs prefer to develop on UNIX, hence the preference for Macs over Windows. Windows has a few utilities to ease the pain a bit, but it's still kind of painful.

Have you customized the behavior? With the default settings, I'm not a fan either.

I meant how you push a complete 3"x3" pad for a mouse button ..strange, not a fan . Did they eliminate that already, and rely only on touch oh just like other laptops?
I'm aware that you can configure hot corners or scroll "natural" etc...

However I do not think most Starbucks customers are really predominantly configuring their mice pads :) nor that they are devs clicking on UNIX :)

The most recent version of the trackpad does not actually move, but it does make you feel like it does. So clicking with it is easy. Myself, I have it set up for soft clicks, to reduce wear and tear on my fingers.

I still use my 2009 MBP, upgraded to a 500gb ssd and maxed out the RAM. The only thing I can't do with it is console into a certain kind of firewall device, so I bought a business class Lenovo also with a ssd, works great for what I need it for also. Nobody really needs that much processing power unless you're some kind of serious developer, RAM and ssd makes every other task blazing fast enough where you won't see any difference.

Macs are great for consumers and that is what you see at Starbucks. Large companies mostly stick to Windows and that is why the numbers say Mac is fourth.

Windows handles AD and Office products way better then any Mac ever will. Windows is the default go to OS for lsoctware development. I do a lot of POCs at work and most companies don't provide software for macs.

I'm constantly battling this generation and their need for a shiny Mac. If I hear another request for VMfusion because your Mac doesn't do pivot tables in excel, I'll lose my shit.

God damn EAs want one but don't understand their core software isn't robust enough to work on a Mac for their job reqs. So instead of asking for a Windows machine like a normal person, these dorks request work around a that end up costing the company in the long run.

Macs are a fade for the hip. Windows is going Ubuntu soon. Watch out!

I was anti-Apple until I started using Apple products.Kept hearing such great things about Apple products so I decided to expand my knowledge base and give it shot. I held out forever and did the apple bashing thing until I got my first iPhone in '12. Then I got the MacBook Air when my fifth PC shit the bed. For me, I love most things about the apple products I own. Will I ever put an apple sticker on a vehicle, absolutely not, not unles they are paying my every month in sponsorship.

However, I'm a typical user. I do web based activities, stream media, and got it mainly for school work. I didn't need to buy an office product, it came with the ability to export an apple doc into a word doc so no issue there. It has been one of my most favorite products because the ability to have all my devices talk to each other, along with being able to reply to text messages and phone calls from my laptop.

Here's the thing though, I don't care what other people are using as their personal computer. That's why there's options. I don't like Starbucks either but I don't care if people drink it.

Maybe the question should be, why do so many MacBook owners drink Starbucks?

Agreed Philz is of course very similar in attendance to Starbucks I think :) except the 24th Mission location? But the downtown..or San Matteo's...are similar.

But not everyone has Philz fortunately or unfortunately.

The reality is actually that Starbucks is the biggest name that brought the current coffee going culture to the USA I think. Talking since 15,20+ years

Sho nuff. It ain't a religion or a clique, it's about getting the most done with the minimal maintenance. Who has time for all those non-stop Windows problems? Masochists, that's who.

When I'd ask our tech support people why they wasted our time with Windows systems, they'd freely admit that most of them would no longer have jobs if they upgraded to Mac.

Then there’s the catchy phrase the cashier exchanges with the barista when whipping cream is not desired: “no whip.” I understand that it saves time, but not only is it not a universally accepted abbreviation for whipping cream, it also sounds like a box one might check when first signing up for an S&M session. As in, “I’d like the 2 a.m. beginner’s session. I’ll take the paddle, but no whip please.”

I like how the barista announces when an order is ready. They rattle off every special request that went into the order. And sometimes it's like 12-15 words describing one beverage. Why not just say Scott your latte is ready? Instead of announcing to the entire world that Scott is a douche hipster who has to have his drink customized 7 different ways?
