Why do we let 16-year olds drive?

makes no difference what age you are. It all comes down to driving experiance. If the law was that you couldn't get a license untill you were 25 you would have the same problem. In Germany it take three years to get a license. Thier program works really good. We just need teens to have more time behind the wheel.

Teens need a One Strike You're Out Til You're 21 Law. I remember being 16-18 and never worrying about death, killing people, causing traffic etc.

Adults need a One Strike You Get A Weekend At Laguna Seca for adult driver training. :teeth

teens are allowed to drive because adults are too lazy or busy to drive them around. not all teens are bad drivers. it all depends how they're taught to drive. i got my license when i was 16 and now closing onto 21, no accidents to tickets. with our society being ever so busy these days, it's almost impossible to have teens without license.

All about experience...

At the age of 12, my dad let me drive our beater '84 Ford LTD in an empty high school parking lot. Been driving on the streets for almost 3.5 years now, (I'm almost 19 now) incident-free. Might be luck, might be the skill that I picked up from my dad's patient guidance. *flame suit* Make it 18 for girls :twofinger :teeth

I was a better driver the day I turned 16 and got my license (I was there when the doors openned) then what seems like most of the people on the road now.

My driving instructor didn't teach me anything. Not that he couldn't, but he didn't want to. He kind of figured that since my father taught him how to drive a truck (18 wheels), and that he said I knew how to drive, he wasn't going to argue. So, I went around the block with him, did some basic driving test meunuvers, and that was it.

I have had one ticket, and no accidents. The only ticket was when I was 16, for making an illegal left hand turn. I never noticed the sign before, and no one else seems to care (I learned from watching on that deal). So, I just payed the ticket (with money I didn't have, since I paid for everything car related), and went to traffic school.

I still feel that I am not better, and no worse then 8 years ago. I have experience more things now, but I have always survived that odd ball incident without a scratch.

Oh, and my father didn't teach me, I just watched what he did my whole life :D

Then again, my mother also said I was a responsible kid (which she doesn't say for the other kids in the family), which is why I was allowed to have a car, and go anywhere, anytime I wanted without telling anyone (just call if I wasn't coming home, even on school nights).

So, in other words, it isn't the age.

My wife's driving story is near identical to mine. Except her ticket was bogus, and was tossed by the judge (the town had a reputation for screwing outsiders).

i don't think that it is 16 year olds driving that is the bad thing i think its 16 year olds driving with other people in their car.

they are not paying attention or being pushed to race that busa next to them. peer presure is somthing that teens seem to conform to quite eaisly and it seems to me that if you just make it. drive by your self till your 18 things would be much better

IMO

Most of the bad drivers I see are not teenagers. I know personally that I started driving a lot more intense after I was more experienced and in my twenties. When I was 16 I was scared so I drove cool but after you get some skill you need to push it further resulting in a more risky situation. I do consider myself a much better driver now than when I was 16, ironically though I would probably say that I am at a higher risk of getting in an accident now because of the fact that I'm more confident with my driving skill.

I thought the idea was to weed them out before they could get credit cards.
