Why is this in my Icon jacket?

OK, so look at it from Icon's standpoint. They put the St Christopher's medal into every recently-made jacket. They don't know the faith (or lack) of every customer. They hope it assists every rider who wears their gear to travel safely, with or without faith.

Sort of wishing someone a nice day, hoping it comes true, without knowing the end result.

Although if I was me that found it I'd sue the pants off of Icon.

I am an atheist, hiding a Christian medal without previously disclosing it in something that I am buying is the same as putting bacon in a Jews sandwich, just because you may think it's good doesn't mean that it's not incredibly offensive. Just another example of trying to cram religion down my throat. Not so far from Mormons baptising my Grand Father as a Mormon after his death.

:rofl

What are you going to sue them for? Did they push you into a dark alley, pin you down while you were screaming, take your money and leave you with a jacket?

This thread caused me to go to the Icon website and browse a little. Their product descriptions are hilarious :rofl

"We at Icon have often been credited(blamed)for the complete 180 in the street motorcycle gear market. Since our first 'Hero' jacket way back in the day Icon has redefined how motorcycle gear should look and function. Now, years later, we continue on this unchartered course clearing a path through the urban jungles. If you were feeling our vibe before then you'll definitely appreciate the Automag 'Hero' offering. Besides the utterly sick leather chassis, hella flex shoulders, louvered exhaust panels, and plethora of internal CE armor, the Automag Hero is equipped with enough molded rubber badging to make any GP star sick with envy. Icon Moto - Remember who started this gangsta sh*t."

OAKLAND?

Only my Piled Higher & Deeper, buddy... :laughing

But it does hold true. Those who have rejected Christianity, Judaism, etc., have trended into Gaiaism, Druidism, Shinto, environmentalism, and other 'faiths'.

I'm generally agnostic, and yes, there's a significant difference there with atheism.

Hardcore atheists are anti-Christian God or anti-Judaic Yaweh, but do seem to end up going deeply into anti-gods. Thus trading one God for another.

An icon jacket i bought a year ago also had the same medallion

You are equating strong adherence to a belief system with religion when they aren't always the same.

Wow, serious? Definitely wont ever be caught dead wearing Icon gear.

Wow. Embedding a particular religion's icon into their gear? Yep, I'm not going to buy any Icon gear now.

It it marked on the tags?

Thanks for the PSA.)

I might be saying what everybody googled, but St. Christopher is the patron saint of travelers. Some of us believe that offering a small prayer(not a set prayer but just your own prayer like thought) when traveling and wearing the medal or having it on your vehicle will help keep you safe. I don't think it inhibits stupidity, but I am a believer.

I wonder if their name is suggestive of some Christian based foundation... ICON, then the medal in the jackets, subtle, but plausible... not sure if it makes any sense, it is late.

interesting...i think its cool...

What if you don't think it's cool? What if you cast it over a cliff with a curse? Would that
create any added danger while riding? It's just a hunk of metal, right? No worries. . .

No worries at all. . .

Until:

"AAAAAAAAAGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!"

People have been badmouthing ICON since they first came out. Yet there are few (or just as many as any other brand) recorded instances of failure. If you look at the industry right now, everyone is chasing ICON design, even the upper tier companies. I have only bought their helmets, and I like them. Their other gear is a bit too much for my tastes, but I've checked out some of their jackets and they seem heavy duty to me. Is ICON squid wear? Maybe, but at least they're wearing it.

maybe it was the fact that all of their jackets had a warning tag in them that stated that the jacket you are wearing is not meant to protect you in a crash"
I shit you not:wtf

maybe the little trinket is in there for there protection:teeth

For all of you folks who are on your way to go;
1. burn the ICON factory down
2. tell all your cool friends not to buy ICON Gear, while you stand outside Stabucks holding your $5 lattes- all dressed in identical gear.
3. calling your lawyers to file a lawsuit

Do me a favor, which will benefit both of us; Give me ALL your money. You don't want to be carrying around something that violates/contradicts your belief system.

I feel that much of the ICON bashing is related to the fact that ICON has targeted it's clothing line at the 'Urban' Crowd, ie, people of color. I admire them for going after that segment and getting them more educated about wearing proper gear.

I don't care for a lot of their 'flashy' products, but who cares what I think. we live in a free country. I admire them for getting more people to wear gear!!!!

Oh, and I am VERY serious about wanting your 'tainted' money.

People who were icon need all the help they can get.....:squid

As I said in my post, I never thought of buying an ICON jacket and only gave them a cursory look. Never noticed that they had the WARNING label on them (probably on the inside). Pretty funny really. But their helmets were DOT and SNELL. I talked to a ICON rep and he said that they went through SNELL because the market research indicated they wouldn't sell as many helmets unless they had been SNELL certified.
