Why no POPO warning?!?! :) ver.PSA

So i'm riding to work this morning northbound 101. I pass like 6 motorcycles and none of them gave me a heads up that there was a cop up ahead on the shoulder. C'mon guys, tap the top of your helmet next time :)

I try my best to give a heads up on road conditions but I find that during squid season and tap on the head results in the other riding just waving back like they have no clue wtf I am talking about.

If you can't see other riders over the divider your doing it wrong and you should increase your scanning.

Angry newbie is angry. :welcome

Dude seriously? You expect me to watch out for you while you are on the other side of a freeway? Are you insane or just stupid? What exactly is your psa? It sounds like you are just bitching because some guy didn't give you the headtap. Talk about entitlement.

This and this.

Do people still respond to flashing high beams? This is what I always do when I see the popo and want to let other riders know...

Up here in the Sierra...drivers flash the high/low beams....and riders tap the helmet..one rider gave me the twirl over his helmet. (and I needed that warning).

.... on the other hand, what if an oncoming rider gives you the tap (or driver the flashing high-beams), you slow down, but don't see any LEO's ?

Was there ever a po-po, or were they fucking with you? :twofinger

Will you ever know ?

People, let's try not to poke at the noobs unnecessarily... It wasn't a totally ridiculous question/request. Poke anybody enough will make them angry. Then we ban both of you? :)

That said... I try to warn every time. Sometimes, I am too busy with my own riding. The CHP might have just pulled up after all those riders had passed. That's a possibility too.

So am I supposed to watch what's happening on the other side of the freeway when I'm riding?
Yeah, it's a good idea if you can spare the mental processing. I've seen scary stuff fly over freeway medians before. YMMV

I helmet tap riders coming the other way on the freeway, most of them look confused. Oh well.

With the Dakar you can easily see up and over the divider - not so much on a sprotbile in a full tuck :).

On a related note, a good (no awesome) friend rented a very nice red car for my bachelor party and while driving that I got the helmet tap from 2 guys on BMW bikes on Pescadero road a few months back. Thanks guys :D.

Meh, I don't expect others to warn me about cops up ahead, but I appreciate it when they do, and I still warn others when given the opportunity. I don't care whether they see me or not, or if they recognize the signal or I just look like an idiot tapping my helmet like I'm a monkey, at least I made the effort. The more riders/cagers see the signal, they become familiar with it. Spread the word, pay it forward.

A few weeks ago a soccer mom in a minivan actually flashed her headlights to let me know there was a cop at the intersection I was approaching, totally made my morning. :)

Please post a picture of yourself in your gear, I want to make sure I warn you every time.

Course then I'll just read this thread, "Ninja rider taps head for me and there are no cops, noob 250s need to get a real bike and a real clue" or something to that effect.

Divided highway, bro.

I gave a head tap the other week in Burlingame, and got a nod of appreciation. I did my good deed.

It is not other rider's responsibility to assist you in avoiding tickets.

....nor is it another riders responsibility to tell you what gear to wear, or to help you develop riding skills, or to advise you of good roads or fun rides and current road conditions......BUT it is still nice when these things happen.....:thumbup I consider the helmet tap that same kind of courtesy....basic motorcycle community support for each other

Don't expect it, always appreciate it....

:teeth

You're welcome. :thumbup

Of course it isn't someone elses responsibility...but it is the decent thing to do.

Give a heads-up..a warning.

I have no desire to assist someone in speeding, regardless if they ride the same type of vehicle as me. I'm not saying I don't speed but I accept the risk that if I do I'll get a ticket. I totally understand your point of view though.

If you're counting on other riders helping you to avoid a ticket, you're going to be very disappointed. Some might occasionally warn you, but most won't. Instead, either pay better attention or slow down.

What's the proper way to warn to a motorcycle when in a car? I've flashed my high beams a few times before and have gotten the finger from a couple riders.
