Why U.S. Healthcare Costs Are High...Dont Blame Burger King

Gotta wonder how much blame rests on the freeloaders who go to the ER or UC but never pay.

Wow. Try being broke and sick some time, and then get back to us on that. Note that with our current state of health care, the first tends to be caused by the second. Are you gonna "freeload" at the ER, or die in the gutter?

Have you seen ER costs of you don't have insurance.

I wen to the ER once for a metal flake in my eye. Keep in mind no damage, just had to get it out. The doctor wore some cools goggles, and used a qtip to get it out. About 5 minutes of time, no treatment afterwards. Nada. Just told me to not wear contacts for a few days.

The bill was 4 thousand dollars.

Why the hell would we pool our resources together and negotiate costs? Ha! That makes no sense... :facepalm

Was it just my interpretation or does his whole video argue for a single payer system? After all, he's talking about bargaining power and that is the single largest form of bargaining power.

My mother-in-law's insurance was billed over $36K a couple of years ago when she spent a few hours in the emergency room for chest pain. They put her in a room, gave her an IV, ran some blood tests and after a while sent her home with no further treatment and no concrete diagnosis.

I posted it here at the time, but can't find it 'cause you can't search the KS.

The whole idea of insurance is that you will pay more in premiums than they will pay out in claims. That is how insurance works. With your 250K claim it means it takes a lot of people paying a lot of bucks for the insurance company to break even. I think this is the true reason for expensive health care, basically health care is just plain expensive.

Yeah, thanks a lot, asshole. :twofinger

And all he had to pay to get that was twice the effective income tax rate he would have paid in the U.S. during his lifetime. :laughing

There is no free lunch. You pay for it one way or another.

A. That's what he pays for PRIVATE health care.

B. Twice 36% is 72%. Put down the crack pipe. Try ~42% - not much higher than here. Corporation tax is lower than here too. Oh, and corporations don't have to shoulder the burden of health care costs either.

C. That includes free further education, NO copays, and covers EVERYONE, including non-taxpayers/people that would not be covered here, for preventative and emergency care.

D. If you watch the vid, you'll see the real reason it is that way, is because you get MUCH better value for money with single-payer. Standards of care are broadly similar, but cost is a fraction of what it is here.

Face it, taxes in the US aren't much higher, but you get shit for it. No health care, no further education, less funding for the arts etc.

We spend too much on the military, we allow corporations to fuck us in the ass on health care.

So get insurance, and/or go to Urgent Care instead.

Dunno whether you paid it or not, but IMHO taxpayers shouldn't.

my biggest issue with health care reform, isnt eh democrats bad plan, but that the right acts as if there isnt a problem

there is, and was, a hige problem. costs were spiraling out of control, and health care rationing, was in full effect LONG before obamacare. they just ignored the whole issue. its insane.

if the GOP actually accepted this, and started offering alternate plans, we might have gotten something better. instead, we get only the dems version because everyone knows theres an issue, and one side decided not to do anything about it

They're coming around. The New Strategy for, "Defund Obamacare," is remove and replace. I have little faith that they would replace it with much of an improvement, but it would be hard to make it worse than the Special Interest Drooling Nightmare that the Dems passed. At least it is a move in the right direction.

not everyone can afford insurance(tens of millions cant, and its growing). you make it sound like you just call up the insurance fairy and have them drop you off some insurance.

ive yet to hear an actual proposal at all. its not defund and replace, its just defund. replace it with what?

hell the whole defund movement is about the next election, and they openly admit that.

so the solution is, force the hospital to raise prices for everyone else to cover it.....?

I bet most people who "can't afford" health insurance have auto/bike insurance (multiple, in fact).......plus TV's, video games, etc....

the solution is the dissolution of the employer paid insurance system. since you know, its totally not working at all

ad using hypotheicals with no basis in fact or reality to make yourself feel better kinda shows where you are at mister rich guy in danville lol

the assumption that everyone has a car is awesome. I bet they are eating their caviar and discussng how their most recent dividends are to low to pay for insurance

Rich in Danville, lulz.......You can buy a townhome here that would cost twice as much in SF. Same with rent prices.

Is the average income & wealth higher in Danville, yes......But not exactly surprising, since the average age is older.

BTW just did a search, and between 89-95% (depending on year) of US households own a car.........A household can be a single person too.

I had a health scare in Sao Paulo earlier this year with heart attack-like symptoms. Ended up probably being a case of severe acid reflux, but I went to one of the best private hospitals in the city, to the emergency room, and received:

full blood tests
chest x ray
EKG
echocardiogram by Cardiologist

Sao Paulo has high CoL, it's the NY of South America. Full bill came to $800.

That whole 'rich' in Danville/San Ramon has followed me my entire life. All through highschool I'd get that despite working since 9th grade. Born and raised in San Ramon and bought a townhome in Danville 3 years ago...I'm by no means rich. Funny thing is, my friends that bitch about their high rent in SF, I laugh because my mortgage is less and I have a backyard and two car garage.

Same array of tests would cost $5K-10K in the US and the Ditto heads would be claiming the problem was defensive medicine

It takes some time to get things going. I think they'll wait to see if they can just straight kill it in this pinch before they put a replacement bill on the table.
