xprmntl car in berkeley?

Followed a cool little orange roadster, apparently one off, with vanity plate "XPRMNTL" this morning on the way to work. We had a good time flying up the top of Marin ave, then along Grizzly peak > golf course road > Grizzly peak. He was a good driver, too- fast, smooth, in control. Stayed in his lane. Faster than me, by a good bit, too.

Anyone else ever seen this guy/car? Oh, driver wearing a black moto helmet. The car was like a kart on steroids. My ears were ringing for the next hour or so after following him.

Yup, that car started as a Lotus Elise about 4 years ago. It has been a long and painful process getting to its current stage. I know the owner from AUDI Club, and yeah, he's a pretty good driver.
