I sure do. I believe I got my first one in 1996 and it was $8.95 a month or something near that. And yeah, having to find a payphone to call back when you got paged was a pain in the ass sometimes. Although, I saw this relic not too long ago and was excited to even see one still in the wild!
I still have my pager, Motorola like in first pic. I remember me and my GF bought a 2-3 year contract. Around the first week I go with my friends out to the lake and just when we get out to the middle, I get paged it's an emergency. Came back, drove a few miles to a pay phone, and the emergency was, what did I want for dinner!
I think it was Pager City or something like that - went out of business before the two years were up... I think I have the equipment to trigger a page now.
Had one in the early 90s (early adopter!). Funnest time was when I got an overnight stay at the county “hotel” and my new wife paged me incessantly as I wasn’t home by 2am.
They took my stuff and I guess they got tired of hearing it go off and called her to let her know I’d be out at 8.
And it was her birthday. Good times.
Pagers still exist. It's a pretty neat tech, honestly.
For the paranoid, it allows you to be accessible without being tracked. Mind, you'll ping the towers when you power up your phone and call back (since pay phones don't exist anymore), but, hey, it's a burner anyway.
