Yamaha FZ-07 to be released in the States

Either way suits someone...The city rider that doesn't do much, has what they want,...And the attack the back roads, rider that puts suspension to work, has what they want.

true, my thought was the required suspension mods would put the bike up near the price range of premium bikes that come stock with better suspension, like the Street Triple. I do like this bike, the low wet weight and the power are good so it's on my list of potential MTS replacements

I know that I'll probably never be able to buy a bike that checks all the boxes but my wish list is:

under 400 lbs all up

> 75 hp & 50 ft lbs

hard panniers

good leg room & all day riding position

200 mile tank range

> 6" suspension travel with Ohlins, Penske, good Showas or equivalent

some wind protection

enough alternator output for heated gear & driving lights

Where do I sign?

If has reasonable pillion accommodations, I'll push my way to the head of the line. :party

Wrap it up!

I gave up some, gained some, and will acquire some, for the NC. I cannot even begin to describe how a 250 mile range is a game changer. Add the hard bags, the all day comfort, the 6' suspension, and I can almost (almost) forgive the shortness of hp. At least there is torque :party

Now, if Yamaha comes up with a reasonable seat height, sport touring, quasi adventure bike based on the FZ-09 I am in!

Yes, you can - you'll have to squeeze just barely past the weight alotment, but a new superduke checks all of those boxes. 6.5 rear/5.8 inches of front travel, WP suspension, 155RWHP, 95 foot pounds of torque, hard panniers will be available shortly, good leg room, all day riding position, I've seen reported numbers of 54mpg with a 4.75 gallon tank.

I guess it doesn't have much wind protection, but that's easily fixed if that's your thing, I don't think it needs it.

It's fucking expensive though.

The FZ-07 is a screaming deal though, about time someone came up with a good SV650 replacement. Just wish they'd bring the ABS models here...

Hard to understand why Yam is offering both of these bikes without at least an ABS option.

I'm in the market for a commuter/light tourer and ABS is a must have.

nice hooligan bike, but it's 470 lbs all up, gets low-mid 30s gas mileage and has a typical streetfighter suspension with less than 5 inches of fork travel

I like the intro to your story. :laughing

You mentioned something I noticed in foreign tests, ("First-ride reports from foreign markets are favorable—no complaints about the fuel delivery, in contrast to the kvetching about the FZ-09′s abrupt power delivery.'), but I've also noticed that another Fz09 prime area for criticism, the suspension, seems to have been handled better on this lighter bike which is great.

Despite the niggles on the FZ09 it's a monster hit, looks like the FZ07 might be another.

Yamaha seems to be on a roll which is great for us all as the other manufacturers have to step it up.

Just checked - tech specs are 125mm/5 inches of front travel, 156mm/6.1 inches of rear travel. I don't buy the reported numbers of 470 pounds, unless that's with a topped off, full tank of gas, which would put no gas weight at 437 pounds. You're not going to find much that gets closer than that in real world specs, as KTM lists the curb weight as 416 pounds, unless you're willing to do supermoto touring (which I highly recommend). Also if you're putting hard panniers on anything, weight becomes sort of a moot point, as they're way the hell out of the ideal rider triangle for weight distro, most people don't make lightweight pannier mounts, the aero characteristics are particularly crap, and any reasonable amount of weight in them is going to immediately make the weight difference between 437 pounds and 400 pounds pretty much a moot point.

On the MPG, I'm getting 40+ while still in the new bike hooligan phase. When I start off a tank conservatively, I'm seeing range estimates upwards of 240 miles to empty. If I could stay out of the throttle, it'd do better. :laughing Track usage saw about 30mpg, so I'd believe the reported 50+ with conservative riding.
