Yamaha R6 PCIII/Ignition Module/QS Question

nope. 06 and 07 uses PCIII. I also installed a PCIII on my friends 09 (even though I told him he needed a PCV) and it worked. he doesn't have QS though.

hmmm.. maybe asked your teammate what he has exactly on his bike? because I know you need a Quick Shifter Expansion Module (Q.E.M.) for 08 and up for the quick shifter to work.

I would call EDR

I think the QEM is only for the PCV. If your using a PCIII, it's the Ignition Module that you need for the QS.

My teammate has a PCIII, Ignition Module, and a QS. But his QS is a push style for vortex rear sets with GP shift. Mine with woodcraft takes a pull style with GP shift. I do know that his part number for the QS is different by a lot. His is something like 4-113 or something like that (close, it could be 4-112). Whatever one is a push style. So mine with a number like 06-4-PULL makes no sense!

Ok so I just did the continuity test on the QS that Ricky mentioned above. When the QS is idle, it keeps a reading on the meter of 1. It's also like that if its not touching anything. So essentially it's not doing anything. I don't know if that's open or a closed circuit.

Then when I engage the lever, the meter then be holds a steady beep as I have it engaged and it reads .002-.003. So I'm guessing its not broken? Seems to read when it gets engaged.

I know the 08 uses a PCIII, my teammate has it hooked up and working fine. My PCIII in my 09 works fine, that's not the issue. I had EDR dyno it and flash the ECU.

Wait, does flashing the ECU have anything to do with this issue?!

No.

You only have a power commander and no ignition module right? And you are plugging the Q/S straight into the power commander right?

The 1 indicates a closed circuit. The .002 indicates the switch is open.

Sounds like the Q/S is working properly and the correct one for the pcIII. You may have a bad connection or a bad ignition module or power commander. It's not uncommon to get bad dynojet stuff, thats why I try to stay away from their electronics.

I'm starting to think the connection that the QS connects to into the ignition module may be the issue. You think I should pull the wires from the connector on the ignition module that connect to the QS and solder them instead of going through the connector?

I also have an ignition module, the QS connect into it.

Try disconnecting the ignition module completely from the bike and plug the Q/S straight into the power commander. If it works then you have a bad ignition module or bad connection to ignition module. If it still doesn't work then you may have a bad power commander. I used to run the Q/S straight into the power commander without an ignition module on my old r6 and it worked great.

Those connectors are not great and can get bad connections. what can help is dielectric grease and you can also try tightening the connections by bending the connectors into a tighter loop with a pick tool.

Ok i'll do this as my next step. Hopefully I can get some time tonight tonight, but if not, it will have to be wednesday. I'll keep ya posted.

Thanks so much for your guys help thus far :thumbup

Just curious which firmware do you have on the PC3?

Damn, that would have been too easy right?

I had originally thought that was the problem, but after updating everything, still there. So now I'm really HOPING its a connection issue, cause that would be easy :teeth

Maybe contact EDR or one of the tuners around, I bet they could give you an immediate answer.

GL!

umm.. dude you got my cell..and shop info.

Pretty sure you have wrong sensor. Should just say "PULL" only on the white box.. next to "DOM" (date of manf) like 66400006 12 2 or such. Thats for the PCIII like you have.

Also the firmware you have to do once or twice sometimes. Ask the tech at DJ to send you the latest BV12 and BV13 also. Or wait till i am there with my lap top at the next PTT and ill help ya out man.

I texted you a video of the CORRECT exact sensor you need check your cell.

Thanks for the info Eric :thumbup

Still need to connect the QS directly into PCIII. If that doesn't work, then I will try a new QS, and if that doesn't work, i will rip the whole god damned thing out and go PCV :nchantr

Any update? Now I'm curious. I have a Qshifter pull sensor/PC3 type that is not installed on the new bike yet. Might be persuaded to let you give it a shot, will be at Thill on tax day.

Just go to bazzaz and end all the problems with dyno jet:teeth
