You Tube

The top content on Youtube is better than anything you pay for with your cable subscription. But you get it for free. Ads turn the mill of online media. Do your fifteen seconds.

While Youtube does have some interesting content, I'd have to say, a HUGE percentage of it is absolute useless trash. Worse than crap.

I've gotten to recognize and never click on some of the assholes that post shite mma videos that have nothing to do with the title or the thumbnail they use. Its often old info or just some jerk giving his worthless opinion that I have no interest in.

You can block certain uploader's channels if have Chrome but the tablet I use most often doesn't allow the use of Chrome.

I remember an NPR discussion a year or two ago talking about how YouTube has never turned a profit.. so that's probably why. Also, as of last week they have ads that get past uOrigin extension I have on my browsers

Weird, I feel the same way about broadcast & cable television.

I wouldn't say YouTube is crap, but I would say that I do not watch 'top content'. Basically nothing that's TV nor Hollywood, nothing with pretty people saying Oh my gawd ,

So why am I shown ads then? :) It's a sample question ... ..I watch many videos with unprofessional people who show people how to do stuff. Like on a blog.

Gotta love the dudes who make 15 minute unboxing videos. Like I give a shit how many pieces of Styrofoam are in the package, or how nice the wax paper is. All you need is 10 seconds to show everything that comes in the box. The rest of the time should be spent on the product itself.

That review is marked for another video. :laughing

It's all about content. Even if more than 50% of BS

He has 893,000 views already, just talking!!!

How else do you expect YouTube to pay it's bills, by fucking magic?

There should be no view credit given if someone can only stand to see 5 seconds of your shite video before shutting it down.

They should control the content better. Annoying enough to watch the commercials but to wait it out and never see the boobs displayed in the thumbnail :mad

Shut down the BS clips and people might be more willing to tolerate advertising.

a lot of whining here. I guess Google should just treat the thousands of CPU cores, thousands of engineers, hundreds of CDN deployments, and the extremely expensive fiber-optic cable capacity that YT consumes, as a charity so the world can watch unlimited cat videos. Yea, that's not going to happen. Pay up.

If you don't like the ads, get the premium subscription. It also gets you a free subscription to the music service.

More importantly, how do you expect the people actually making the content to keep paying their bills?

Since the fine folks on BARF don't seem to think there's content on YouTube worth a damn, here's five channels ABSOLUTELY worth your ad time: (as curated by myself: loads of science and maker content)

Kurzgesagt: In a Nutshell (Complex concepts explained simply)

Clickspring: Machining and Amateur Clockmaking (Not as good as loumc, but he manages)

Slowmo Guys: Fun with High-Speed Cameras

Jimmy DiResta: Woodworking, metalworking, creating in a number of mediums.

Regular Car Reviews: Hilarious and insightful reviews of mundane cars
