Z3n's Project Barn

Some days in the shop are good days, some days are bad days. Was pulling the other fork apart to make sure all the parts I was test fitting would work, and the rebound cap broke loose and then jammed in there real good. Sufficiently that it wouldn't go back in or come out, and eventually the hex head twisted itself into nothingness.

After a lot of careful drilling and grinding:

And finally some persuasion with a sledge and a brass drift (wouldn't want to mar the surfaces!):

Good thing we're not reusing these cartridges, as I had to destroy the rebound assembly to get it out. Other side vs, uh, modified:

Managed to do the job without destroying any of the mating surfaces or bore, and thankfully the forks are a matched pair, so the adapter dropped right in and fit perfectly. Waiting on the adapters to be spun out by my machinist buddy in aluminum, SKF for seals, and I'll be ready to rebuild it and send it back to my buddy. Hopefully I'll have the front forks wrapped by next week, and then it's just finding a shock to match.

God, I need to clean the shop. Too much going on over the last few months.
