Burrito Inflation

literally the entire point of food trucks WAS to be affordable and good quality food that anybody can get into because low overhead and no rent for a restaurant.

now it's all hipster bullshit and $18 korean BBQ or $20 chicken and waffles.

two posts in the thread make me feel good that I thought the $14.99 burritos are expensive in SF.

The feds just reported that consumer prices on average are up 9.1% from a year ago.

But, eating out on a regular basis has always been a colossal waste of money.

Maybe I haven't tried hard enough--but I definitely cannot do carnitas as good as the taqueria . Nor the oiled / fried tortillas

boooya, luckily an expert on Giraffes elevated the discussion

Makes me miss the steady rotation of food trucks that parked by my office before 90% of us started working from home. Not multiple, just one a day. If I forgot to pack a lunch, 10 bucks max and I'm good.

I'm surprised we still have an ice cream man that comes around my neighborhood. Can you imagine if you had to pay 8 bucks for a big stick popsicle or 5 bucks for a bag of skittles?

Something I can't wrap my head around is regardless of price point, seeing friends who are 'foodies' that make going to locations where food trucks will be is a hobby. Wasn't the point that you don't have to drive 20 minutes to eat a 15 dollar burrito?

Big respect to the men and women that still have mobile stoves and cook dirty dogs outside of concert and sports venues. 5 bucks. Always been 5 bucks.

That would make a Great Signature Line!!!

I too went to Chavez Market a while back and paid $15.99 for a burrito. Another time, I was out with my Brother and he wanted a Burger King Whopper. We ordered 2- #1 Meals (Whoppers) and it was $25!!! Yeah, things are crazy.

Before COVID, the local market had burritos for $7.99

During COVID, the price rose to $10.99

Now, the burritos are $14.99

They are not ginormous but OK size to make a meal of.

This sucks! I haven't had a good burrito in two years. I bought one at $10.99, but I cannot afford the new price.

Oakland has plenty $8 burritos and $7 burgers. San Jose Taquieria

In SF in the seventies, El Faro had breakfast burritos the size of your calf for $3.

this may come as a surprise, but ALSO corporate profits are through the roof.

Weird how those two things might be related :laughing

I'm sure that little market will have record profits this year too. I'm tempted to protest by placing signage.

My company is posting 160% bookings per ORB. Too bad supply chain can't keep up. I don't care much because I'm not getting any of it. We just had our annuals and the corporate adjustment was 4%. I had to clench my teeth while listening to my boss tell me what a fantastic job I've been doing and how great it was for me to step up and fill in a couple more positions, while giving me 3.5%.

I've never had good chicken& waffles in the bay area. It's always been bad. People always try to fancy it up and it misses the whole point of that meal.

If you're paying $14 for burritos, either you have expensive tastes or you're not privy to the places that have food still on the cheap.

Burritos aren't really that difficult to make at home.

Burrito price increases offset by the hugh inflation salary bump we all just received. Right?

Probably, but I haven't run the numbers on that?

I'm sure from an actual TCO it is covered, but I don't know about as a percentage?

The pain is real. I paid $20+ for this last week (just the taco)

I never found the food trucks to be the "value option". I always found them pricey, and the food was never extraordinary.

I think Rubio's near us is running about $11 for a steak burrito right now, but it's been a bit since I've been there.

Burritos aren't really that difficult to make at home.

Once you've marinated and grilled the meat, soaked and cooked the beans, cooked the rice, grated the cheese, mixed the salsa, and mashed up the guacamole, heating and stuffing the tortilla is easy!

The one that got me was 5 guys. Like 3 years ago a full meal was like 7 or 8 bucks. Now, a burger on it's own is over 10. I can make a better burger at home if you are going to charge that, thank you very much.
