Before COVID, the local market had burritos for $7.99

During COVID, the price rose to $10.99

Now, the burritos are $14.99

They are not ginormous but OK size to make a meal of.

This sucks! I haven't had a good burrito in two years. I bought one at $10.99, but I cannot afford the new price.

Yea it's ridiculous.

Went to Chavez last week because I was craving some al pastor and it was $12.99, throw in a large Jamaica and it was nearly $20 for lunch.

This place in San Jo used to be $5 for 5.

I just poked around some Mexican restaurants near me down here in Orange County.

A quick 5 minute search gave me an average of $12ish for chicken/carnitas, as low as $9. As high as $18 for shrimp burritos.

Y'all got that Bay Area tax on you.

I just went to a local taqueria. The super burrito was $15.99, wet and delicious.

Where were you going for $8 burritos any time in the fast five years?

There's a spot in midtown Sac I used to frequent quite a bit when I lived there 7 years ago called Azul. It's still there, so I stopped by while visiting for a wedding just a couple weeks ago and a standard burrito (rice, beans, pico, choice of meat) is still $8.50. :shrug

Everything is going up. Just trucking anything anywhere is driving up prices. Suck it up if you want to eat it up.

We're pretty much not buying premade food these days. Seems like anything other than name-brand fast food and it's going to be fifty bucks for the three of us. It's just too much to spend for what amounts to garbage food. I could almost literally grill up two big costco tri-tip & veggie meals for the same price.

The feds just reported that consumer prices on average are up 9.1% from a year ago.

But, eating out on a regular basis has always been a colossal waste of money.

There is a difference between inflation and suck my dick.

Have you raised your rates 180% over the past few years? Do you pay your employees that much more?

I'm not going to suck it up. I just will not play.

this may come as a surprise, but ALSO corporate profits are through the roof.

Weird how those two things might be related :laughing

There are still a few places around with burritos in the $8-$10 range.

Yes, burritos are expensive, but not as expensive as breakfast tacos! :rofl

I miss my college days when the vegetarian burrito from Taqueria Cancun was just $3 :cry

No and no. Likely need to catch up in ‘23.

SUCKS!! :blah

The food trucks near me sell burritos for around $10 that blow away anything you can get from an actual "restaurant".

Used to be a food truck in west Oakland that I rode to a couple of times from Concord to get a burrito. Stumbled onto it when working in east Oakland and as good as any sit down restaurant. Well maybe not as good as the Mexquite Mexican in Folsom but damn good for a food truck.

The food truck market has become so saturated but many times they’re just as quality as sit down restaurants, at least in my experience of sit down restaurants that don’t cost an arm and a leg, but my peeve is food trucks nickel and dime you for everything else outside of that one main food item.

They gotta make money and I get that but I don’t gotta eat there too. Order a 10 dollar burrito/burger/sandwich/tacos and before you know it, you’re almost doubling your tab if you want chips or fries or water or a soda plus a suggested 20% tip on the iPad that makes you feel like a douche if you choose any other option or god forbid you pay in cash.
