RMCR Concept bike

Sport bike variations of HD sportsters have been tried many times, primarily with body kits and they always get lot of attention, but never get made.
 
Pretty design exercise.

Maybe at the most, a limited production run to become collectable.

As a real rider?
Ergonomics look incredibly difficult, tank looks incredibly small with tiny range. But it's a cool looking bike nonetheless
 
Good looking, although I think it would look better with the "nose" of the Sporty on it.

Maybe the new bikes tank is 3-3.5 gals vs the 2.5 on the Sporty?

Harley has a bad habit of coming out with underpowered, overweight, and overpriced bikes when trying to enter a new market. That original cafe racer pretty, but performance wise it was a mutt. Same with their 500\750 Indian bikes, the xr1200, and even the overweight 38 degree neck, no ground clearance V Rod.

If you want into a new market segment, you must produce something better than what is on the market, exemplary, not average and overpriced. The new bike is beautiful, but I wonder how it will work.
 
I think the investment in MotoAmerica and the entire bagger racing endeavor is a clue that H-D recognizes that they really...no, really, need to embrace a new direction. Like American car manufacturers in the 1970's and 1980's, they stopped innovating and leaned on extracting more profit from a shrinking pool of aging loyal buyers. I think if they made it more of a standard bike and less sporty, and kept the weight down, it would be an interesting bike.

Agreed, but they've been here before. The V-Rod was supposed to bring them closer to "current" but was rejected like the plaque by the old school masses. I recall a dejected Miguel Duhamel trying to make something out of nothing with that AMA road racing fiasco in the early 2000's.
The motor company seems to be at odds with it's own customer base. They feel more rudderless to me than ever before. I suppose their next challenge will be to figure out how to make their E-Bike (Livewire) leak oil when parked. You can never make everyone happy.
 
Yeah....Enchanter owns the only Harley I've ever had any interest in.
That bike is another example of how the old guard HD guys reject anything under 900lbs the way a body rejects a bad organ.

Didn’t Chris get his first win on the VR at Searspoint? I was working that race with the NMP and seem to recall that race.

No, the VR1000 never won a race.
 
Daytona is a HP heavy track, I don't think the VR1000 would be able to pull off a podium there. Perhaps this is what you're thinking of?
  • 1996, Pomona — Pole Position (Chris Carr): Carr secured the VR1000's only official AMA Superbike pole position. Did not finish on the podium
The Googles only leads me to the following podium finishes:
  • 1994, Mid-Ohio — 3rd Place (Miguel Duhamel)
  • 1999, Sears Point 2nd Place (Pascal Picotte)
  • 1999, Daytona 200 — Podium Finish (Pascal Picotte)

I didn't say podium. I don't think he even finished the race.
But I do believe I recall him setting the fastest single lap time which at least put him at P-1 at the beginning of the race.
I'm struggling to find evidence of my point as well, but I did find this.....

I was at that Pomona race Chris on the pole and the HD did not finish. Gerry Carr, Chris's dad was pissed when Dunlap brought Chris some tires he could not get. But after getting the pole all of a sudden they had some for him.
