Goodbye RFR

From RFR's website.... 10/13/2009 - RUMORS RUMORS RUMORS
We have had more calls emails and concerns over the rumors of us closing than for anything else before. Funny how people only seem to care when they might lose something. What is amazing to me is how many have taken these rumors for truth and not bothered to ask us directly, for the those that want to know Here is the 411.

No, we are not closed
No, we have not filed for BK protection
No, revenue is not up
Yes, revenue is down (like every other business in the world)
Yes, we have had to lay people off (what business hasn't)
Yes, we have problems with our lenders (who doesn't right now)
Yes, we are working through those problems (that is why we are still open)
Yes, we owe money
Yes, we are paying it down (that is why we are still open)
Yes, we need to spend more on advertising, repairs, etc (SEE ABOVE)

The fact is people have been saying this stuff for more than a year now, and yet we are still here and operating. Stop believing everything you hear and start asking your own questions like some have. Get yourself informed. Those that did have been out having fun on the track with out you.

Not to be rude, but everybody says they want RFR around, but they complain about the cost and then don't come out regularly. Riders/Drivers and other supporters need to realize that we may go away because people need to stop talking and start showing that they want a race track here. Our last Bens test day ($100) had 4 riders at it what kind of indication does that tell you as a business owner.

As it stands right now we are open but will only be doing tests this winter by pre-paid reservations with a 1K dollars minimum (no just showing up to the track when you like). We do plan to open next year and are currently taking reservations from track day providers.

However people need to show there support not just talk about it. That means bringing new people with you to the track and talking about it daily at work or with friends to help raise general awareness. Walk down the street and ask 10 people if they know about RFR, you will get a lot of people that say they don't. If RFR is going to make it every one of you drivers, riders, and fans needs to be out there helping on the streets everyday.

You say you really want a track, then get out and help build support and build awareness for it, make it your cause.

It seems to me Instead of bitching about the the track we just need to show our support and try to go to this track bring our friends and :ride:ride:ride

You quoted an old message from the RFR website that was BEFORE their notice of closing and did not read all the posts in here about HELPING RFR.

It has already been discussed in this thread that the SSA has been doing everything it can to keep the track open. By hosting trackdays after the other providers pulled out (both Z2 and PTT canceled days there this year), AND giving away free track days to BARF to get people over the hill to ride the track. While we have been getting great support from SCR and BARF, it has not been enough to keep the track running.

We also just received word that the SCCA (auto) is stepping up and that there might be some investors willing to take the track on. So keep your fingers crossed.

The SSA will be holding a club meeting in Reno on Dec 6th. The track, and our ability to support/help it will be discussed, probably ad nauseum. You are welcome to attend and show your support of the track.

I was directing my comment to the bitching about the surface. Support the track by going to track days and hopefully they could resurface someday, that was my point.
Well thanks for correcting me obviously I didn't realize that the closure announcement came after.
I really hope something can happen for this track and I will show my support by riding RFR if there is an opportunity in the future. :thumbup

a: $50/rider/month would not be a lot of money anyway with the numbers you'd get.

b: The location really is craptacular. Amazingly so. The only nearby city is Reno, and Reno is small (entire extended reno area is 400K people.). So you have to consider distance to REAL cities like San Francisco or Sacramento.

Compare distance from San Francisco proper:
Sears Pt: 35 miles!
Laguna Seca: 120 miles
Thunderhill: 150 miles
Buttonwillow: 250 miles (but only 130 miles from LA)
Reno Fernley Raceway: 250 miles

Even from sacramento (the closest real city to RFR) RFR sucks:
Sears Pt: 65 miles
Thunderhill: 90 miles
Reno Ferney Raceway: 170 miles

Its not surprising that RFR is failing: the location is really bad, unpardonably bad.

And remember, distance costs money: At even just $.35/mile for gas and wear-and-tear on your trackday hauler (the IRS rate is $.50/mile), an extra 260 miles round trip vs Laguna Seca is an extra $90, or very nearly the price difference between riding those two tracks!

If you value your own time stuck in the car at $20/hr, thats another $80 in "time cost" as well...

Thus for bay area residents, the question was: for effectively the same money, which would YOU rather be riding on, Reno-Fernley or Laguna Seca? Or you could save money and go to Sears Point, which when all costs included ends up being vastly cheaper (short drive, no hotel)...

Ouch. :p

But so true. :(

+ 1
I live 18 mi. from Infineon, 120 mi. from T-Hill. 230 mi.from RFR.

I hear they are putting in a brothel.
that oughta pay for track improvements in no time flat.

(I keed, I keed. but its not a bad idea)

:rolleyesWhut, you can't drive 20 miles? Ohhh, never mind:tails:blush

I really enjoy the series of linked turnz up top the hill and that Turn2 sweeper, where I learned to let the track do the braking and double apex. I've only been up there twice, honestly it would take a Z2 Wet T-shirt Contest to get me up there again.

Too bad. Lack of places/options for track riding = suck

+1. I have a theory that fast guys don't like it there because their suspension is set up for higher average speeds, so through the slow corners, their forks and shocks aren't operating in the ideal range. Then add a mid corner bump while your set up is already less than optimal, and you have fast guys that can't rip as fast as they are usually able to. Just a theory, pulled directly from my ass. But I noticed that I was turning faster laps at reno with stock suspension than I was able to after revalving.

This is such a non-issue for the "half-brain-dead". You turn a couple of turns out on everything, including pre-load, to soften it up, and ride. There is more to it than "stiff suspension". Check Ken Hill's post about this track. I think that he can adjust his suspension, just fine.

Hmm, interesting. I got know the semi-scoop but I'll let 2strokeyardsale let the cat out of the bag when things are more definite. Could be good though for us.

I did not read this all but can I get some contact info to the track people who run things Pmed to me? Thanks

Digging up the track and moving it to Sacramento? :teeth
