Westcoast connection annual ride Crash on bridge

There are many shades of gray when it comes to stupidity. While I probably wouldn't take part in something like this myself--mostly due to lack of skills rather than an overabundance of good judgment--I really enjoy these types of public displays when there aren't any problems.

Your assumption is not only incorrect but naive.

We have many more crashes on freeways than other roads. As for gear, we encourage ATGATT, however that has nothing to do whether or not the rider is:
A: Good or B: licensed.

And before I get blasted about "profiling" bikes, I tow/impound a 10/1 ratio of unlicensed cars vs. bikes. That is 10 cars for every 1 bike.

I didn't say crashes on freeways. I said wheelie related crashes on freeways.

That doesn't mean anything. The ratio of cars to bikes on the road is probably 100 to 1.

Let's talk percentages. What percentage of bikes get impounded vs what percentage of cars. Most of the time stopped for the same offence.

I have never investigated a wheelie related traffic collision on any road other than the freeways.

Regarding your question about percentage: I can not provide an answer. However if I stop a motorcycle for no plate and the driver is unlicensed, the bike gets towed.

If I stop a car for no plates, and the driver is unlicensed, the vehicle gets towed.

I attempt to tow every vehicle that does not belong on the road.

what is the reasoning behind this. Because a suspended license doesn't necessary mean you know how to drive, it just means you havent paid the state the amount of money they deem acceptable to drive on "their" roadways.

For instance, at one point of my life i had my license suspended, I rely on driving (im an outside salesperson) to make my money. I decided it was more important to drive my vehicle and risk it so I could make the money to pay my rent, registration, state taxes, on top of my fees from the state vs walking to san fran or oakland to sell something.

I never got caught but I dont believe its very fair to tow a vehicle due to fees.

I believe I wasn't clear. What I was trying to say is there are far less people crashing wheelies on freeways than people crashing going fast on twisties.
Those are just as endangering to the public as stunt riders. Yet it's somehow approved or not looked down upon here on barf.

Half the damn posts on the "Crash analysis" forum are of people eating shit going down Redwood because they can't ride. If anyone ever said "I looped my bike doing a wheelie" everyone here would flip out.

How many accidents you have investigated started out with "So i was driving down 680 and this crazy guy was doing a wheelie and ran into me". None?

Yet you may ask your coworkers how many people died going over the double yellow line because of speeding.

Many suspended licenses are due to excessive numbers of tickets, or DUIs.

They're both bad. But that doesn't change the fact that stunting on a heavily traveled road is stupid.

What provoked it to give way right then? Was there some sort of shock load passing through the clip on, or was it already so compromised that it failed spontaneously?

A pre flight check was the error.... well that and lack of good judgement....

When I'm on the highways, there is only two things that matter to me: delays and possible delays.

A big stunter ride on the bridge is not going along at 75 mph, so you are slowing up traffic there.

And when I see a wheelie on the highway, I'm not thinking "Cool" or "Jealous" or even "Stupid". I'm thinking, "If he lays it down in front of me, I'm going to be stuck in traffic".

this forum is full of nutswingers and COPS...FTP :twofinger and try and catch me doing a wheelie ANYWHERE on the streets or in the lots...ill bounce out so fast itll make your head spin off:twofinger

and i might get blood on my tires

true, but why can you not get it back till you pay thousands of dollars?

because the next time you consider doing something illegal involving the public roadways, perhaps you'll consider how expensive it is to get caught, and not do it. fines, towing your car, jail time... all are deterrents meant to modify the behavior of those that choose to break the rules
