Passing on the right is by far the thing I hate the most about driving/riding.
This is why.
One, I only make my passes in the left lane... If I am not passing, I am out of the far left lane in either a middle lane (on a more than two lane same direction highway) or in the right lane.
Two, Passing on the right is dangerous. In passing on the left in the far lane you have only three directions to watch, 12, 3, and 6. Passing on the Right you're now forced to watch 12, 3, 6, and 9.
On a two lane/same direction Highway the danger with passing on the right is you are passing in the lane where vehicles are entering/exiting the highway and the shoulder tends to have more disabled vehicles.
So now you're attention is split between 12, 3, 6, and 9 with 12, and 3, getting a great deal of more focus because you have to watch mering traffic on the On/Offramps all while tracking the asshat parked in the left lane who you are moving past on the right in case they 'wake up' and suddenly decide to move to the right, while making sure you have an escape window on your right you can move/gas/brake into. (This has happened to me more than once)
The danger is there to a similar degree with multi-width freeways as traffic in the far right lanes moves into the middle lanes to try to avoid traffic merging on the highway. If it's moving considerably slower than you are and does not signal before moving into your lane while you're attempting to pass on the right this can be quite the brake-check/swerve situation.
Three, What if you get up beside the shithead and he suddenly wakes up and realizes the exit 1/8th of a mile ahead is the exit he needs NOW and tries to go from the fast lane to the slow lane in one fell swoop? I wish I could say that kind of idiocy has never happened to me, but it has, more than once.
Sure, a pass only takes seconds... But it takes far less than that for things to go very wrong.
ItsDAMPER: you're narcissistic, inconsiderate, and put yourself ahead of the safety and well being of those around you. Endangering lives by not obeying simple to follow guidelines. Your attitude and driving habits are unlikely to change any time soon, so all I can personally hope is that you lose your license in a manner that does not involve someone else losing their life.
