Blasted up to Stony Saturday night for a reconnaissance ride. Camped at Fouts Springs, only one other rig there. The group campground had about 8 rigs there, the Richmond Ramblers must have been laying out the course for the Bearfoot Family Enduro this coming weekend.
We were up and ready to go before the sunrise...it was 28 degrees...
Still some nice fall colors near Mill Creek...
The Fouts Springs Youth Detention Center is fully abandoned, it seems...
Finally! Running potable water has returned to Fouts Springs!

It's been
years! Everything is all shiny and new...
The dump station is up and running again, too!
A quick breakfast and we were on our way...
We took the singletrack to the right of the Nail Track area up to M5, then climbed up to Trail 20 on Trail 30. It looks like a dozer has been on 30 going up the hill. There used to be some rocky sections and some gnarly rutted sections, but it's all smooth and easy-peasy now

Lots of silt on the ground...like, 6" in some areas...
Trail 20 was in pretty good shape. Sure looks different after the fire. There were some downed trees that we needed to get over but nothing problematic...
We ran into a closure on Trail 20. Looks like they're preparing the area to be logged. Lots of fresh paint on the trees and such. The trail was in pretty good shape, if a bit dry.
We took 20, 7, 3, 4, 19 and 6. Seemed like 4 was much rockier and drier than usual...it was really loose. Goat Mountain was a great place for lunch, though, on a stellar day...
Have I mentioned lately how much I love my small-bore 2-stroke? No? Well, I do. It makes me feel like I'm 16 again and that is
always a good thing!
I wanted to avoid Potato Hill since I'm not very fond of it, and I wanted to see how the Husky memorial fared so we headed over to the top of 32. This is what it used to look like...
This is what it looks like now...
The tree that it was attached to has been cut down and the memorial was nowhere to be found. I'm hoping it was taken home by the friends that put it up there in the first place. Lots of missing trees, too. It was weird to ride down that hill and be able to see the valley and the youth center through the sparse foliage.
Caught a glimpse of the group campground with only 2 rigs remaining. This photo makes it look much smaller than it actually is...
We both had a blast riding at Stony. We've missed it! This was our first trip back since it burned. Looking forward to hitting the eastern trails next time. Can you say hill climb?
The sunset on the way home, with the full Taurus moon rising on the other side of the highway not too long afterwards, was awesome. Beautiful ending to a fantastically fun day. Stonyford is looking good and I'm sure it'll only be better in a few weeks!
