Dear god that Suzuki looks good!

It might not win any races but it wins the best looking bike on the gird award, the blue leathers also fit the bike so well.

Anyone want to start making bets on the finishing position of rookies or new bikes for next season?

we should probably get an off season thread going to discuss such matters. a thread to call home until next april :(

Also keep in mind that these engine putting out the power they do, without electronics to smooth them out, they would be extremely peaky in power output with very narrow power bands.

IMO, that's a myth. Pneumatic valves allow for some crazy cam grinds that help to eliminate this problem. Really, if anyone on the grid wants to win races, there engine needs to not be peaky. Exhaust flappers and engine timing only do so much to help w midrange power, so a smooth powerband must be inherent to the engine without electronics.

Redding did just comment that the RS engine has less grunt. But I'm sure that's like comparing an R6 to a CBR. The RCV wouldn't win races if it ran like a two stroke.

Ithere engine needs to not be peaky.

Hence the electronics. I'm sure there's a lot more going on than exhaust flappers and timing to smooth it out. Fueling, individual intake butterfly control, etc.

Even the WSBK Kawasaki and BMWs are doing some cool stuff. Those I-4 screamers sound like the R1 coming off of 1st gear corners and then suddenly go back to sounding like what you would expect from a screamer 4 from second gear onward.

I see on Rossi's FB page where Hayden is running second fastest in today's testing in the rain:cool!

the example u r giving is not "making the engines less peaky". if anything, your example is curbing midrange at the first hit of the throttle to make it easier for the rider to exit 1st gear corners. thats also the electronics not giving full power in first gear unless the front wheel is on the ground. thats not what im trying to discuss.

"peaky" is a lack of midrange follow by a ton of power over a certain rpm. u can make the power curve more linear in 1 of 2 ways... reduce the peak power or increase the midrange. reducing peak power can help in situations where u cant use peak power like above, but ud go slower everywhere else. increasing midrange electronically forces u to open the butterflies more which will waste fuel and could play tricks on the rider. so really, there are a host of side-effects when trying to fix a lack of midrange with electronics. thats y, im sure, the GP factories put in a ton of effort to mechanically make their engines not peaky.

goddamn the honda is just so fucking beefy looking. suzuki frame and swingarm looks like a bianchi in comparison

You'd be amazed at how thin the walls are on that swingarm. The bigger they get the thinner they are.

i dont expect Miller to score all that many points next year. maybe just over 10, maybe not. there are just too many better & more experienced riders on better equipment next year to take those 15 spots each race.

I believe Miller will be a legitimate threat and very fast rider in year one. No podiums but lots of top ten and maybe five finishes. He's got spunk.

I'll take that bet

Doesn't matter how good he is, he's on a crappt bike

Not only will he never get a dry top 5, he will get no more than two top tens

We should keep a thread with all the bets

this reminds me, i owe 20$ to BARF for Pol not getting on the box.

damn u Pol, y did u crash at PI!!!

I dont believe that for a single second. he may have had them reduced, but none? NOAP

That's cause they stopped doing that when Aoyama broke his back after whatever that idiots name is that decided it would be a good idea to ride one with it all turned off.

+1 on whoever said the Suzuki is winning the best looking bike award.

Being 2nd place in wet conditions on a test day doesn't really mean or say much. :dunno

Yeah, as much as I like Miller, top 5 I think will be very hard on that bike. Top 10 even may be hard. I just did a rundown of the guys on better equipment than him. Assuming the prod Honda is still kind of a turd, the list is deep...

4 aliens
2 pastafarians
crutchlow
redding
bradley
pol pot
asparagus
bradl
foo bar baz

Potentially 13 guys that he'll have a hard time beating it looks like. At least 10.

Yep. Abd even then, he will have to fight 4 extra factory ducats. 2 Pramac Abd 2 avinta. He's better than those riders, but realistically will the production racer be better than the gp14.2 those guys will get? Thats if they don't get newer bikes.

Scoring points next year will be a fight, no doubt. Miller is a great talent but getting a top ten in the dry will be like a victory.

i dont think the RCV-RS will be THAT much of a turd. Aoyama took 3/4 of the year to learn the 1000R to be able to beat Redding and Nicky. given how different he has said the new bike is and how diff Redding says the RCV is, im not surprised that he could do shit all weekend. but give a better rider (Nicky) all of preseason testing to find a base, and theyll def be more competitive.

i think the results for the Open bikes will come to the team that best manages the power w/ the Open software. Avintia got a Duc electronics tech to help them out. NGM got a little help from Yamaha. DriveM7 obv had no idea this weekend, so maybe HRC needs to help out.
