What will it take to convince you of climate change?

It seems that there's a lot of gut feeling on here that reflects mistrust of government, and also an unwillingness to believe because it will result in a change in lifestyle (higher taxes or restricted consumer choice) if there's mass agreement. The disbelief in the science is just stalling. No rational person could believe that 99 percent of the world's climate scientists along with every other government, large institution and Fortune-500 business on the planet is either wrong or lying.

Now, if we applied that to any other problem--say, your business going bankrupt--would that seem like a wise or mature outlook?

I think most people have not ever been actually given the opportunity to look at the science themselves. So how can people make a conclusion for themselves?

Most of the information people get is from institutions that already have their conclusions drawn based on their own best interests. In that way, Al Gore's propaganda isn't really much different from that of the Koch Bros.

People don't even have the chance to believe in the science or not, because they never really are exposed to it.

Why not use this opportunity to critically discuss the components of warming and cooling, and encourage people to draw their own conclusions based on some slightly better information than the media offers?

Although I agree with you for 99% of cases, he does falls under the 1% of people who don't care even if you show him the science. This isn't the first time we've discussed the science with him.

If he wants I'll gladly present everything.

I apologize for my temper;

NBean: if you have any questions, doubts , etc, list them and I'll do my best to answer all of them in a simplified way with the scientific research that proves it.

You couple scientists with governments and large institutions and fortune 500 corps? Everything after scientists is pretty icky.

Most of your non mushroom based posts are snide as fuck. You get the same back.

You keep referring to these three scientists. Who are they? What are their qualifications? What is their background on climate based science? Do they have any published work? Coors has great info, but im supposed to just believe something cause 3 dudes came on barf and said they were scientists? What are you talking about?

Ok.

Nobody here needs to qualify themselves. You believe what you want and ignore the rest. I certainly am not going to waste my time with you.

I have a BS in Meteorologry with a concentration in climate science. Nobody cares what you truly think, you ignore half the answers we give you and then proceed to flame other posters.

You either believe in the science or you don't. Since you clearly don't you might as well start living in a cave with no materials that came from scientific research and engineering feats.

Btw I heard the flat earth society is trying to recruit people.

This.

I agree with Donald Trump about the Iraq war and abortion rights--that doesn't mean I don't think he'd best serve the world as foul-smelling orange fertilizer.

The truth is that pretty much every government, large institution and big corporation believe that climate change is happening and it's caused by human activity. Icky or not, (some are and some aren't--Ford is cool, the Italian government is cool, Uber is evil) they agree.

Scientists are pretty icky. Smell like cabbage. Small hands.

I realize there are unethical people in any profession, but certain personality types are attracted to certain professions. For example: passive beta types don't exactly flock to law enforcement. And, lawyer types whose ethics align with whatever can be technically done while just barely falling under the letter of the law, are attracted to government/corporations/etc. I really don't like those types because they're super icky. I don't know what personality type is attracted to science, but it's far from the same type that are attracted to politics.

:laughing of course they do! they all stand to make mad $$$ from whatever global combat maneuvers they come up with :rolleyes

Not really. Oil companies don't. The government of Bangladesh doesn't. How will the Catholic church profit?

I'm :laughing at your simplistic world view. More importantly and alarmingly, the rest of the world is :laughing at us for having such a large population of deniers. If you go outside the USA, people like our popular culture and money, but they think we're childish morons.

Yes. Being an enormous douche will convince people. Sorry but youre not a scientist. Youre a guy who went and got a 4 year degree and were taught by people who already made up their minds. Good for you. Ive done research ive read many papers and dont necessarily come to the same conclusions of the people writing. Many of them make huge leaps and many climate models have been very wrong. I dont need your help nor do i know anything about you. For all i know you work at mcdonalds.

I appreciate coors posts, theyre well thought out and he manages not to be a scumbag. Because someone disagrees with him. If i were to pm anybody it would be him. But thanks for the offer.

There's your answer coors. Because I decided to get a degree in the field I'm corrupted and therefore me delivering the information is "bias and full of shit".

I'm just going to accept that you're the giant troll of BARF seeing how on every forum you decide to stir shit. You asked for who were the scientist and you decided to redirect it. Props to you sir.

Contest! I will donate $5 to BARF in the name of the person who posts the best "cool story bro" meme in response to FXCLM5's staggeringly irrelevant post.

I don't have a clue, anymore... Is that a"cool story bro" or what?

I can see how the answer would depend on the readers age.. :rofl
