1983 CX650 Eurosport restoration thread.

It really does glissen in the sunlight.
....and yes to what Bud said....thanks for talking up along. :ride

Just hearing you start it and ride off took me right back to my cx500.
It was my first street bike I purchased used back in 1977 I believe.
Lots of good memories . :)

25 mile shakedown, rides like a dream, but found this. 😟
I don't remember if the seals that I bought were NOS or not.
Brake side is dry as a bone, clutch side, not so much.

New Honda seals on order from Norway.

If that is the only glitch you find I'd say you will be very happy.

"Rides like a dream" sounds like a great result.

Congrats again and enjoy.

Just when you thought it was over.
I'm going back to Sac on Tuesday to get a couple of things fixed (fork leak, booger on the front fender), but that's not what this is about.

Earlier in the thread, you may recall the engine case guard issue (crash guards).
Mine were rashed, Larry's Hondaline were for a CX500, so I bought the ones off of eBay to complete the project.

Well, I left my old ones behind to see if some day, Larry felt like he could repair them well enough to be rechromed. They have always been my favorite crash bar design, and I've never seen another pair like them. Ever.
I figured, years from now.

Wrong.

They will need to be dechromed, minor patches for small dings, then rechromed, but I'll get to have my unique crash bars back on the bike.
😁😁

Well, apparently the thread isn't dead quite yet.
OEM Showa 37mm fork seals were installed in BOTH forks after discovering that the aftermarket seals were 2mm smaller internal diameter.
A quick ride, still a little oil. . . Wipe it off, just in case it was from the oil used to lube the seals.
Another quick ride, hitting the brakes so hard that the front tire actually screeched, forks diving to nearly 90% compression.
More oil. Lots more oil.
WTF?? we asks.
Inspection. Conjecture, diagnosis, more inspection. Revelation.
The brand new, custom made left fork tube is scored.
We're not sure how yet.
So, the bike is back in Sacramento.
More to come.

Tis a bummer, but at least you are getting er done.

Curious as to what the process was of repairing it?

Images of the damage. We still don't know how or why.
Forks by Frank is sending us another tube.
I've order more internal parts.

She's home, with no fork leaks.
The brand new front tire, however, is losing air pressure. About 20 lbs over several weeks.
I'm suspecting a bad bead seal. Not critical at the moment, so I'll deal with that later. I'm the interim, she's rideable as long as I check pressure before a ride.
