1983 CX650 Eurosport restoration thread.

Wow, just wow.

Congrats.

I hope she's a runner not a show queen.

You must be stoked Tim. That looks fricking fantastic!!! :thumbup

That looks class, Looks better than new!!!

I've fixed up a lot of bikes, and spent a lot of time and energy fixing random issues of all sorts from welding, cleaning, finishing and WTF stuff...

Every post I calc in my head "well that had to take X hours" for some trivial detail item getting done...
Then add that all up to $/hr..
and get chills.

Yeah. When I started this, before the discovery of the broken steering head, I just wanted some paint, graphics, and fix the electrical gremlin.
Once the prototype status became undeniable, a full restoration was the only way to go.
Some of the repairs were Larry being the consummate perfectionist that he is and literally creating a method of repair that he just wanted to try to see if it worked (and if it didn't created a new method that did), many of them were me asking myself, "well, do I really need my left kidney?"
(To be frank, though, I'm really thankful that I just got a huge promotion at my job, because I'm really attached to that kidney)

Well, I didn't say that she'd be a "daily runner" (that's what my 500 is for) but she will not be a show queen either.
Bikes were meant to be ridden.
Excellent.

You need to ride it so other serious motorcyclists can admire it.

Make sure to have plenty of business cars from your ace mechanic.

Unless, of course, he has more clients already than time.

After this restoration, he has one more and he's retiring from it.
His final restoration is going to be a 1984 Kawasaki GPZ750 turbo.

IIRC it has about one mile on it from being rolled around for a few decades.

That being said, during the restoration, I'm sure he'll be rebuilding carburetors for the CX riders who need help with their Keihins.

To those of you who say they would be afraid to ride it, I understand.
But me, i would be out enjoying the fruits of my labor....that said I would probably avoid wet days 'cause I am now a pansy. ;)

Tim,

Just had to look back to see when this journey started. June 24.

Pretty good given the complexity.
Very cool to be along for the ride.

Looking forward to seeing you ride.

Such a cool looking bike. Glad you’re gonna ride it, to cool not to!
