He's owned it since the early 80's. I used to steal the key and take off on it (got my ass beat for that)

I was with him when he crashed it, Jamison's creek rd, IIRC. It sat for at least 10 years, and he's been restoring it for another 10. (marriage, family, career...)

Got a minute? Getting that bike to run right has been quite the uphill battle. :deadhorse It had a dead spot from 6-9k rpm which was brought into sharp relief when I went to stock gearing, 43t from the 49t sprocket that was on there--shoulda gone with a 45. No amount of jetting and fettling would make it go away. Finally I bought needle jets and needles from Tuning Works which wouldn't fit. Sent him a pic of the carbs and he told me they were a weird version of the TM34 no one has parts for. I found a set of carbs in Sweden off an RS 250 which I bought for 1000 Kroner ($150). I put the RGV jets & needles in it and now it's got pretty good power from 6-9 k then goes bat-shit crazy to 12k. It still bogs off the line so I've been experimenting with pilot jets and needle shims. It runs well enough to haul ass @ Laguna Seca on a set of B-Stone slicks tho! Except for brake pads & tires the bike's pretty much as you left it. Any idea why the RGV graphics are pink on one side and yellow on the other?
 
I think you're the 5th owner of the bike, I was the 3rd owner and had it from 2001-2008. Not sure if the 4th owner did anything. This was a Japanese market bike and was imported by the 2nd owner, who also did a bunch of mods, such as the race SAPC (I think it was the 23D10), open air box, different gearing, pipes and aftermarket rear tail. He was basically trying to emulate the Suzuki "Hop Up" manual. Have you read it, if not let me know and I can send you a copy.

I never rode that bike much, so I never sorted it out as I should have, but I didn't have a flat spot. I think the open air box, with a race SAPC dulled street performance, especially compared to my stock 95 RS250. Bogging issues might be SAPC/air box related, as the solenoids open at different rates with the race SAPC.

I don't think I changed the reeds, that could also cause bogging.

As for the colors, not sure, from my understanding the bike was pure stock when it was imported. I want to say the 2 different colors was normal.
