2014 VFR 800cc available in May!

They still have the forks in backwards!

maybe the electrics have been sorted out...
at East Bay Mosports they only had a 1200, which wasn't what I visualized in my garage.

^^^yeah maybe, i've had 3 vfrs and 3 fz-1s so i kinda disagree but "to each his own."

I agree with hophead And I would pick one up myself if I didn't have a 07 already.
A lot of people have been bashing the new vfr but I'm glad that honda listened and took some of the 5th gen styling and upgraded some features while keeping the price reasonable.
I usually keep my opinion to myself until I actually ride the thing.

Just saw this video about the new '14 VFR800 and it piqued my interest. It has what I want (the DLX model does anyway) - ABS, TC, heated grips, an interesting engine (inline 4s do nothing for me anymore), cool extras like LED headlights and automatically cancelling turn signals.

Thoughts... price is a bit high, and as mentioned before... no upside down forks? What's up with that? I'm sure it's perfectly competent without them but they seem pretty much standard on all bikes these days.

I'll have to see how it looks in the flesh, and how it feels to sit on.

Oh yeah, Honda has an optional quickshifter. :D

Hondas are getting heavier and less powerful for some reason. The 650F makes 20 HP less than my 600F4, and has a steel frame and shitty suspension. Now this 800 makes about the same power as my 600? More torque, so the power peak must be on the floor somewhere.

It's a cult. Either you are in or you are out. I thought about buying a well modded one a few years ago, but ultimately did not.

So is it going to really be available in May then or what? Guess i could call a dealer but don't want to........

I think you're right. It used to be a "no brainer" better bike. Now.. maybe not so much.

In the beginning the VFR was superior and it evolved into a really fine street bike. But somewhere around 2000 the positive evolution ... can we say, slowed? In 2002 the Gen 6 lost gear cam drive and gained VTEC. A furious debate followed, mostly about loss of gear driven cams and VTEC. Then the VFR1200, arguably not a real VFR, followed. More furious debate....

Lost in all this debate, imho, is that other bikes evolved as well, and some better than the VFR.

I have almost a quarter million miles on VFRs so I know them. I find my 07 FZ1 a faster and better handling bike by far. The new Kawasaki 1000s are better yet. Still the VFR can still put a smile on my face. Still fun to ride, warts and all. A very accommodating and forgiving motorcycle. But not best in anything.

So, how can a motorcycle that isn't best in anything be so "accommodating and forgiving?," and so pleasant to just ride?

Dunno. Call up BMW twins. Call up many Ducatis. Call up the VFR. They just are... I wish I could explain it, but I can't. I hoped the new VFR would be more than it is... but it isn't. Regardless, I suspect it will still be a most pleasant motorcycle.

It does seem like a bit of a cult. I've been doing more research into this bike and it seems like a lot of VFR owners are real fanatics.

I'll be interested to see how well they sell. They are supposed to be released in May, and I'm interested to see how easy, or not, it will be to find them sitting in showrooms. I'm sure it's not the most anticipated bike release of the year.

I didn't get it. Genuinely, I thought VFR owners were a bit touched in the head.

Then I got one.

Now I understand.

Maybe I'm a bit touched in the head.

The first thing through my head after I wrecked my '04 VFR was to go out and buy another one. Ok, that's not entirely accurate--I think the FIRST thought was "Holy shit, I can still walk?", but to get another 6th gen as a replacement was definitely my first instinct. But then, I figured, shouldn't I use this opportunity to try something new? So, I bought an FZ1, with a mapped PC3, racetech and penske suspension, lighter and nimbler and waaaaay more powerful than the VFR... And it's a great bike, and I really enjoy it.

But it's no VFR.

-also touched in the head

(I'd already own this one if it didn't go up for sale on a day when I was at the track)

Not a fan of the vtec tech. I'd like to see one with a very low seat height (30" or lower) so the wife (5' 6") could get attracted to ride a full fairing bike herself (. Last VFR seat was about the same height as an FJR, IIRC, almost 32".

Yes. That's *exactly* what's remarkable about the VFR.

From one FZ-1 owner to another, yep that's right! I'm on my 3rd FZ, two others were stolen a couple of years apart. I've also had 3 vfrs but without a doubt the best one of all six bikes was my rwb '07 VFR, Rip best ever.
For all the people who say they are not a fan of the Vtec that is either based on the early '02 model or reviews they read. By '07 it was very well sorted, mine was completely stock, i didn't modify a thing other than a fender eliminator and i had the non abs model. I think the new one looks to be a real fine looking motorcycle.:thumbup
Riding a V-four in a VFR chassis is sublime and has to be experienced. My FZ-1 is a great all around motorcycle and yeah it's faster i guess by the numbers or if you are a moto journalist for a living it might be relevant, makes better print to have an opinion, etc.......

There is something amazing about that V4 engine. That's probably part of the appeal. It doesn't feel like anything else on the road (well, except I guess the Aprilia V4s). I had an '86 VFR700 and a '97 VFR (both of them well-used by the time I got them). They were both great bikes.
