I just queued up the daily Dakar Rally show on NBCS on my DVR. It's all over the map 2:30pm, 10pm, 11pm, 3pm...can't predict it, just shoved in where ever.
 
That’s because not enough Americans are as cool as we are. :teeth

Barely more viewers than my three sons reruns.

Could be based on stage start times and length? They probably need x amount of time to gather footage, edit and upload. So if it starts at noon and ends at 3, they can get the edit up in 24 hours. But if the stage starts at 11 and ends at 5, it delays the upload.

Not sure of any of this, just a theory. But, I'll agree it's a PITA. I don't have DVR with Sling TV where I can watch the races, so I'll probably torrent most stages

Edit: not to mention NBC needs to ingest, make their edit, add logos and voiceovers.

So I watched the first 3 Lyndon Poskit vids, knowing nothing about the guy.

Knowing little about KTMs, it seems that's a KTM 690 with a special 450cc rally engine? That makes 70 HP? Yikes! It's crazy how he squirrrels away tools and spares in that thing. It must weigh 400 pounds.

I noticed he had spare wheels (with mounted tires) in the Malle Moto class. Does his crew change bibs/tires on spare wheels and all he has to do is swap wheels, or does he have to change bibs/tires himself?

IIRC mini came in 1-4 or something crazy last year.

I think that's the jist of the KTM 450 Rally. With all the nav and spares they carry, I'd imagine you're right about weight, if not a bit low.

In Malle I think they do it all themselves. No outside help is allowed. His crew is only a film crew.

I’m pretty sure he’s allowed help with only tire changes. Everything else he does himself. There is an hour long video on YouTube about his effort last year. It’s a good watch. :thumbup

Blistering performances from Monster Energy Honda Team with the stage victory for Joan Barreda, plus fourth and fifth spots for Michael Metge and Kevin Benavides as the race moves on from Pisco.

Joan Barreda gave a master class in speed with a commanding performance in the special stage. The Spaniard completed the course in 2 h 56’ 44” nearly three minutes less than the stage runner-up. Barreda thus moves to the head of the overall leader board.

Likewise, Michael Metge bounced back from yesterday’s delayed time to post a noteworthy result. The Frenchman looked at ease on the bike and scored fourth spot on the day and now holds ninth in the overall standings.

Meanwhile, Kevin Benavides also turned out a fine, almost effortless performance that stands him in good stead for tomorrow. The Argentine rider now lies in seventh overall position and will be able to attack from a strong starting position in a stage with very similar characteristics to those of today’s.

Ricky Brabec finished the stage in twelfth spot and moves up one place in the general rankings to eleventh. The American rider got slowed up among some of the lost cars going in circles in the desperate search for some of the route’s more elusive waypoints.

Part of the reason for the heightened interest had to be due to the fact that it’s the 40th running of the Dakar, but you can’t discount the fact that with five Americans in the lineup of 139 motorcycles (the most in recent memory and possibly ever), a huge number of Americans are following the race’s progress.

The American participants on two wheels include Ricky Brabec, Andrew Short, Mark Samuels, Bill Conger, and Shane Esposito, with Brabec on the Monster Energy Honda Team having the most experience—and, with it, the most pressure to perform.

Van Beveren Second Overall After Dakar Rally’s Demanding Stage Two
Securing a second consecutive runner-up stage result, Yamalube Yamaha Official Rally Team's Adrien Van Beveren retains his highly-positive second overall result in the 2018 Dakar Rally's provisional overall standings. Finishing the first long stage of this year's event without any issues, Adrien's teammates Xavier de Soultrait and Franco Caimi are currently placed sixth and eighth respectively in the overall rankings.

After dominating the second stage on Sunday, Joan Barreda will be opening the road on Monday with a big target on his back. The Spaniard has put serious time into many of his rivals, who will attempt to reduce the gap. Watch out for Adrien Van Beveren, who is already shining in Peru, as well as the reaction of the three official KTM riders after a lacklustre second stage.

The coverage by NBC was well done.
A lot of time given to the bikes. With 139 entrants it should be. No Americans at the top few though.

Nice to see the American rookie driver finish 4th. **f@ck just read Ryan’s post! :rant **
The format seemed more race business than in years past.

Shit gets real tomorrow.
