2018 Winter Olympics

I started after the 2006 games, not the 2014 games. And it is fun! ;)

Sure is. I keep telling my friends they should come with me to try it sometime. They haven't taken me up on the offer though.

Don't know what they're missin

I think people assume it's just like shuffleboard on ice and that automatically equates to elderly people and boredom.

I equate it to shuffleboard and that’s what makes it fun for me. Course my only experience with shuffleboard is at a bar with friends having fun. :shrug

I've actually never even tried the mini version...

^ That kind of shuffleboard is the only shuffleboard I know.

When I was living in Sacramento, that was one of our favorite things to do when me and my coworkers went out to happy hour after work.

If any of you are interested, there is a podcast episode recently from Playing With Science (an offshoot of Neil Degrasse Tyson's StarTalk podcast) about Curling.

Ester Ledecka with a Gold in the Giant Slalom AND Snowboard Gold! Never done before...talk about one savage athlete! That was cool.

So, why is there so much curling? Here are the reasons I can come up with:

1. They promised X number of hours of coverage and curling is, by far, the cheapest event to cover/produce/deliver.
2. They are trying to ram curling down our throats and think that if we are forced to watch enough of it we'll decide we like it.
3. One of the curlers is related to some network bigwig and so we're all forced to watch it.
4. They think that the NASCAR crowd will warm to it.

Any other possibilities?

Yes. After the last winter games, Kornholio posted about how he tried curling and how much fun it was. It went viral. :laughing
:laughing

the lack of NHL players created many 2 hour voids that the networks needed to cover being the biggest reason is my guess.

......
Any other possibilities?
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOal. They are going to kill Americanism and make sure we stop watching the great game of American Football and are all bored shitless watching wimpy 'futbal' There were even ads for SOCCER on the Winter Olympics, for boring sakes. :rolleyes

We have had Poker watching on TV, so there is an audience for being bored to sleep with the boob-tube on. I watch golf when I need a nap. So I guess I am guilt of lazy viewership. But, damn ......curling, poker, darts, tiddlywinks .... not really worth a second hand view.

I guess nobody gets injured in curling. That's a positive for the millennials who like to participate in non contact sports.

I was wondering if, when we set the DVR to automatically record all Olympic coverage, if they're crediting the curling with getting N viewers even if 90% or higher just delete them without ever looking at them.

Man...... the opening and closing ceremonies are sure different in the digital age.
