2019 - 2026 Wednesday Night Drags Sonoma

My daughter works there and runs the Wednesday drag program. Anyone that's handed the cute blonde girl their entrance fee has met her.
She is actively lobbying for them to roll back that archaic policy.
There's a lot more I can't say right now about what's going on, but it's not good.
The track loses money on the Wednesday night program....always has. Ironically, they started back in the 70's (Thursday nights?) as a public service to help get racing off the street. It was never intended to generate any income, just public goodwill.... and perhaps some local positive PR
It seems they want to kill off the program while saying "Hey, we tried. Entry numbers kept going down".....that's because entry fees will continue to go up.
All part of their plan.

Good to hear from you. That is exactly what most are saying about Sonoma, "All Part of their plan". Such a shame to have a world class facility this close and they could care less. I know all they think about is the Road course and the Mega $$$$ it generates.

That is the suck.

They may recognize BARF by the way. Some staf has retired so don't know for sure. It might be worth asking if you could post your race reports because it was attracting others to come out. ;)

You would think but trust me, they honestly do not care. Drag racing is an inconvenience for them. The writing has been on the wall for the last several years.

Boom, it's been officially rename Sonoma Drags

There's another built in irony....Wednesday's never made any money UNTIL the tweakers....er, drifters.....came aboard. Winter-fest makes them good money too.
The drag program would have been gone along time ago if the drifters hadn't shown up.
....and now they are the first to be shown the door.
I never liked or even understood drifting, but I don't have to.
I see it as a necessary evil like NASCAR. I don't give two fucks about NASCAR but their money invested in my home track made me safer as a motorcyclist.
If the drifters were needed to keep the drag program alive, I confess I miss them.

The way I see it is it gives places for people to do these events legally. If there was no place to do it then there would be more street racing, sideshows, etc...

I see these people posting videos of Sur Ron drag race bikes using dragy to get times wearing a helmet, tshirt and jeans on public roads. If anything I use the drag strip a performance benchmark.

I feel the same way. Whatever it takes to keep the show going. Yeah, I have no idea how the drifting works. I heard drift was a big problem for them with people not knowing how to act right.

Last of the drag race tower at Sonoma. Make room for NASCAR.

SUCKS BIG TIME

Am I the only one spotting the irony of the flag in that picture being at half mast?

Heh I think I took that when Dianne Feinstein passed away.

Is it possible to do licensing runs on a Wednesday night? Are they strict about having a license?

This question made more sense about 2 years ago.:rolleyes

Not all of us are boomers:afm199

Where are the street races? There, better?

I’d like to not get kicked out first pass is all… geez.

All I meant was....this was a good question to ask when they were still actually racing.
The sad state of affairs has destroyed the drag racing landscape around here.

NHRA License? Yes you can. May take a while now because there are only a few Wednesday nights this year.

I think you only need a license if you ago faster than 10 I think. Then you'll have to have a tether I think. If you break the barrier you'll get another pass and then they'll kick you out.
