2024 Formula 1 thread ***spoilers***

Bortoleto (F2 points leader) is going to Sauber/Audi. McLaren let him go. Bottas is out. Hulk has a young teammate instead of an experienced one.

RB is still considering Colapinto for a seat in either team. But Williams is asking a huge sum for his contract, in part because Colapinto's personal sponsors are worth a ton.

The GPDA (Grand Prix Drivers Association) is making waves. They are going after the FIA President over the new swearing regs, the bullshit jewelry and underwear regs, the fines, and the lack of transparency with the fine money. They even made a new IG account and have their very strongly worded letter as their first and only post 😆

IMO, the FIA Pres has been trying to institute a bunch of pointless bullshit on the drivers. It wreaks of puritanical garbage that few actually care about, making it wholly unnecessary. Im stoked the GPDA is united in this. I think it will get the Pres to walk back quickly, again. Or maybe he'll double down and it will blow up in his face - which will be fun for us to watch.

If F1 is not careful they will end up in the same boat as the 80's 90's Florida Offshore racing..... IMO

But don't be shocked that someone named Mohammed Ben Sulayem, who came from a conservative society, tries to implement their own conservative views.

Well, we are into the final stretch. The first of the last 3 race weekends in a row...Vegas Baby!!!

Hopefully, it will be as good as last year.

Ferrari and Mercedes look strong, but RB has only used medium tires so their times may not be as bad as they look on paper.

Interesting change for this race, the word paddock won't be used because the guy who killed 59 people from a hotel was named Paddock. Apparently the word is too upsetting for locals. They did it last year though I didn't hear about it, I'm sure some of you knew of it from last year.

Had Heineken booth tickets, but sadly...didn't think it worth going out to the race. Plus, our place was booked...still, weird to not be interested at all at going.

I saw an article about a workaround where you could ride the monorail...

Vegas is locked down to stop free views of F1, but this $6 hack actually works
Last year, a few enterprising TikTokers shared that you could see the track from the Las Vegas monorail, a form of public transit that runs parallel to the Strip from the MGM Grand to the Sahara. Hopping on at the first station, I had low expectations, especially because a decorative wrap obscured some of the view out of the windows. But within a minute, the high-pitched whine of an F1 car pierced the air, eliciting gasps from everyone on the train. Down below, two cars zipped by.

An even more incredible sight awaited between the Linq and Las Vegas Convention Center stations, where the monorail route passes by the Sphere. There, drivers slow down for turns 5 and 6, allowing for a better view of the speedy cars. As the drivers accelerate out of the turn, for a moment, they run almost exactly under the train track, racing you and the monorail. During one of my loops, I was looking straight down onto Max Verstappen’s Red Bull. It’s a view like no other.

I can see holding a race at night if daytime temperatures are oppressive but it seems that this race is held at night, which is very cold this time of year, because of the lights as Vegas looks quite ordinary during the day?

Ridiculous.

I’ve always found both nighttime races and street courses to be visually boring. Combining the two could make for a great napping opportunity.

When I watched the qualifying, the track surface looked wet, it was just that the road looks shiny under the lights.

A 2-stop race at a track where passing is almost common == fun.

Lewis def helped the show by qualifying so poorly and making us think he could catch George.

Checo needs to be dropped. At least he only finished 5 spots behind Max this time, but he got beat by a VCARB again.

WTF happend with all the botched stops. Sainz bailing last second. Alpine giving Ocon a drive-thru instead of just waiting. One Aston stop having zero tires ready. :wtf

The Mercedes proved to be the best car this weekend, they did mention that it runs better on cold weekends of which there weren't that many this year.

Cleanest racing the I've seen from Max, he didn't want to risk not finishing while racing people who had nothing to lose and he had everything to lose.

Good to see Mercedes pull it together.

Hamilton blowing his qualifying definitely cost him a challenge for the win.

The remaining part of the season is super important to these three teams. Ten of million on the line. Hulkenberg finish 8th was great.

Why RB kept Perez is a mystery; Bottas proved a fantastic number two at Mercedes and was instrumental in their run and Sainz has proven to be a solid number two. Either of them would have been the wiser choice than keeping Perez.

Sergio Perez will discover whether he has a future at Red Bull following a shareholder meeting after the season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

The beleaguered Mexican has hung onto a seat so far this year despite enduring a dismal season that has left him 251 points adrift of team-mate and newly-crowned 2024 F1 drivers' champion Max Verstappen.

Despite a string of lacklustre performances, with his lack of points also all but ending Red Bull's defence of the constructors' title, Perez has publicly enjoyed the backing of the team – albeit with clear calls that results need to improve.

He now seemingly has next weekend's Qatar Grand Prix and the final race of the year in Abu Dhabi to prove he is deserving of a 2025 drive, with a number of options open to Red Bull and sister team RB.
