750 Superbike - Onboard with #944

IMHO I think it looks as if you did run wide you were passing on the brakes and looks to me like he was carrying more speed but you were braking later. I can't quite tell but it actually looks like you stand your bike up prior to the crash making an unexpected move. He was expecting you to take the inside line but instead you were braking far deeper than needed he was committed to that line and you guys crashed. It's so tough to try and pin fault in accidents like this. Sure you guys can say he showed him the bike but I can show everyone my bike trying to make a pass on the brakes on anyone but does it mean I can complete the pass nooooo making it stick is half the battle especially when you're passing on the brakes. Sucks going down especially when bikes get tied up but I see nothing blatently dangerous just two guys fighting for position.

I watched the vidoe again only to say WTF... If you look there had been a battle for that spot for a lap. Well heading from turn 2 to 3. The orange bike gets the front wheel off the ground, then shuts off the gas (braking mistake). Meanwhile mr 944 flys right by like he is standing still. This move didnt just show a wheel, it problably showed the back wheel (a complete pass).

Now if you look at the impact. You 1st see the front end of the orange bike, then arm and then his thigh indicating the orange bike was moving faster. This to me shows a over agressive braking mistake causing the crash.

I really don't think we are getting the whole picture from the looks we may not know exactly how far in front he got. The camera is mounted on the forward part of the bike he started braking immediately as the orange bike is out of view but that doesn't mean that the orange bike wasn't still on the gas or braking later. We need a different view if we are going to start placing fault.
 
The one thing I know is showing someone a wheel does not mean they see it. I had that conversation once with a racer, who was amazed I did not see his wheel on the inside at T11, Sears. My response was nope. If I had I would have changed my line.

1- its a block pass
2- the 1st thing you do when contact is made is stand the bike up
3- ran wide....um how can you run wide when he didnt even make it to the corner?

Go back and watch the vid, The orange bike is clearly "blipping" when the front wheel comes down.
 
If he was clearly passed than how come he knew to stand the bike up before the incident. It's impossible to see from that video how far in front he got the view is to forward. It looks like he blew by but how does the orange bike catch up that fast and get out front while the op was just turning the bike in. The orange bike probably never saw him. What I meant by running wide is more of a late apex from braking later but from the vid its not clear how far in front he made it. If he made a good block pass theres no way the orange bike could have collided in the manner that he did. I'm not saying it wasn't the orange guys fault nor the ops but there is not enough evidence to pass judgement.

no honestly I don't know any of the guys but I have had similar close calls and one impact but we both managed to stay up. For instance I was making an outside pass exiting T2 at T-hill I thought I clearly showed him my entire bike and was going to block into 3 I took the inside line and he was staying wide than did exactly what happened in this video. I got on the brakes hard nearly lost the front but missed his rear wheel by inches. I made a pass later on after the incedent but after wards I spoke with him and he said he never saw me. These things happen especially when you are focused ahead on the track.

Same bike that impacted Steve. Pete said he was having some serious rear tire issues in the race...

That sucks your camera doesn't have any signs of sliding. Hmmm if he saw you there than there was plenty of track left to get around you or pull up and suck in behind and try and get you in the exit. Too bad bro his comment is garbage at least lie and say he didn't see you basically he's saying he just ran right into you for really no reason other than I guess he would rather wreck you than lose that position. But there are only very small moments to react he was probably committed to his bad decision and I'm pretty sure we've all made similar mistakes but been lucky enough not to get hit or hit someone.
 
Anyone ever seen the old Matt Ecclestein video where Pete nearly takes him out several times at Sears?

I only raced for 4 years, but I'd say around year 3 when I first got on a 750 I learned fairly quickly to avoid that rider. I was quite happy when he showed up on a very slow Buell and some of us didn't have to see him in practice.

Clearly he left you plenty of space. :laughing Under his elbo just above his knee, there was this little space... that space was for you.
