Alberto Puig blasts Nicky Hayden

Nicky has a MotoGP championship, Pedrosa does not and never will. He's more Haga than Haga. :laughing

I think you're confusing Haga with Mamola. Haga had a championship taken from him due to some BS drug test. Haga should have a title. Pedrosa was on the best bike in the paddock for years, and someone always got ahead of him. He could never put it all together. I don't think there is enough time left for him to get the championship, and I'm good with that. Taking out Hayden was a no class move, and I'm still butt hurt over that. :mad I don't think Hayden deserves to be a "legend" of MotoGP though. The stats just aren't there to justify it.

Haga didn't actually win it though, did he? I thought he was on track to win but then got suspended for a few races which killed his titles hopes that year.

I guess anyone with a championship could be considered a "legend", really. Think about it... many (most?) people who ever got into MotoGP, or even 500cc, have zero wins, zero podiums, zero laps led, and certainly zero championships. Nicky ain't Rossi, but he's accomplished more in GP racing than most.

Yeah, no way Hayden is a "legend," but few are, and that's the point. The guy is still a champion, with no asterisks (yeah yeah, he won fewer races than Rossi that year, who will win fewer races than Lorenzo this year, even if Rossi is eventual champion).

Pedrosa, yeah. Obviously, 2012 was his best chance, and he had a GREAT year. Not sure why prevents him from being up there (he's often injured). He's just too inconsistent.

And what a pisser that was........................Haga wasn't on the best bike either, he was riding like a god. hmmm, maybe it was the drugs..........:laughing

I'm a Hayden fan, always have been. I'm not trying taking anything away from him. He's a hard working, loyal, nice, honest, fast, great person. But........... legend, nope. When I think of great MotoGP riders, Hayden isn't in there. And you're right about most GP riders as well. The skill and commitment to become one of the elite riders in the world is a feat in it's own, even if you never win a championship or even win a race, you lined up on the grid and felt the fury. Most MC racers will never know that feeling or experience that moment at the top of the hill.

Old zombie thread. Posted by a user i don't recognize, that gets instant mod attention. Thread is TL;DR.

Angry Spanish midget (karlitos) angry that Hillbilly Squidracer (Nicky Hayden) gets a bunch of attention after announcing he's quitting MotoGP. And angry that Angry kamikaze Spanish midget racer (Pedrosa) is not getting the love he so deserves. :laughing

Totally agree..:thumbup

We have 5 legendary American Champs.

Rainey, Lawson, Spencer, Schwantz and Roberts.

And some honest to God talented guys too.
Hayden, Mamola, Kocinski, Pat Hennen

Mamola should have been a champ... :rant

Yup... I know.. and a winner in the 500GP class too.

Spencer and Roberts also has some success in the 250 Class.

His name was on my list because of talent... there are some others, but I left it there since we are talking the world stage in the premiere class basically.

Hennen was there before Roberts, Baker, & the others. He was always in the hunt in the GP's. Last race I heard was a big bail after an impact w/a bird @ speed @ the IOMTT, however others say he never raced there???? I'm unclear on how his career ended...

Last I heard he was still alive at a place up in the Berkeley hills where he grew up. Anyone clarify?

Wow I just went back to read this whole thread from many years ago....I forgot I had so many quality posts in it.

I heard.. and if you watch the first video it is repeated that he did get hurt at the IOMTT and raced it for his sponsors.

He was friends with the owner of the shop that sponsored me when I raced MX in the early 80's. He would come in and hang at night when we were wrenching. Nice dude.. he was left less than he was and that seemed such a damn shame.

That's what I got Dave.
